Re: Osama bin ladin is dead. Congratulations to the team that took him down but this doesn't change much at this point. Our government is still going to continue to fear monger the American people into thinking a terrorist is around every corner. We will still remain in Afghanistan, Iraq and maybe Libya. Hopefully, his death really does break the will of terrorists around the world but I have my doubts. Finally, I do appreciate that this chapter of the "war on terror" is now complete.
I really wanted to see who got fired too. They broke in with 20 minutes to go and he didn't address the nation for another 50 minutes.

In some ways, I think this legitimizes our military presence in Pakistan, and certainly gives value to the surge announced back in December '09. But lord knows I'm not going to be the one to predict when or how the war in Afghanistan will end. It's been happening for almost half of my entire life, it's hard to imagine us not being in wars the previous administration said would last indefinitely.
On a side note, this happens to be the eighth anniversary of Bush announcing "Mission accomplished."

I think the NY Times said a few days ago that it seemed like they were already planning on upping their assault in Afghanistan on Monday. And I would be shocked and awed by any attack on American soil at this point in time. Though I guess most everyone was shocked by 9/11...
