Post Re: Last game you played?
Yeah I think that making games is just so long and complicated that all the major publishers would basically have to take a year off to keep up. One by one every trusted brand falls. And now people who buy games at $70, on day one, are basically treated like beta testers. I just don't understand why Xbox would release it in this state when they have spent so much money trying to convince people their exclusives are just as good as PS5 and Switch.

As for 60FPS, if I start a game on graphics mode then I usually don't notice. However, if I switch to 60 FPS performance mode and then back it is very noticable. It feels like playing in slow motion. More importantly however, PS5s and XSX were sold on the idea that every game would be both 4K and 60 FPS and it just hasn't happened. I think that's a bit more of a reasonable complaint than the usual PC Master Race where nothing is ever good enough.

Occasional frame rate drops are one thing. Even Elden Ring had those. I just don't wanna see any memes of the game chugging along at 14 FPS. Zelda deserves better than that! Luckily Nintendo has never really done that. I know Pokemon Scarlet was obviously a first party exclusive but we can still blame that on Gamefreak putting out 3 games in a year. :funny:

Nintendo released their fiscal finantial report (Apr. 2022-Mar. 2023) today, and among all the news, I think the most shocking is that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold ANOTHER 8.45 million copies over this period. That's a mere 100,000 less than 2021-2022 (8.46 million). :zonks: Total sales up to 53.79 million copies. With the Wii U sales included, it's sold over 60 million copies now (6th best selling game in history).

Top 5 Best Selling Switch Games of the fiscal year were:

22.10 million - Pokemon Scarlet/Violet
10.67 million - Splatoon 3
9.60 million - Nintendo Switch Sports
8.45 million (53.79m cumulative) - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3.81 million (6.46m cumulative) - Kirby and the Forgotten Land

The Switch also only fell 22% year-on-year to 17.97 million units (9.22m OLED, 6.14m Standard, 2.62m Lite), bringing its lifetime up to 125.62 million units (third highest ever, ~29.4m away from the PS2 for #1). The decline is more than anticipated apparently, blame going to chip shortages, but to still sell that many units in its 6th year is nuts.

And software sales were down just 9% year-on-year to 213.96 million units, bringing the cumulative total to over 1 billion with 1,036,150,000 games sold on the console (highest ever).

And here is the updated Switch million sellers as of March 31st (highlighted games are new entries since the last fiscal year):

Spoiler: show
53.79m - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
42.21m - Animal Crossing: New Horizons

1.00m - Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm and Exercise
1.00m - Shin Megami Tensei V
1.00m - Thief Simulator
1.00m - Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town

Tears of the Kingdom will, presumably, be an easy 20/25m+ seller.

I assume Mario + Rabbids 2 and Octopath Traveler 2 will be 1m+ sellers among those released recently when Ubisoft and Square release their reports. And upcoming: Advance Wars, probably. Hogwarts Legacy may be a multi-million seller when it releases in July based on its good sales rankings on Amazon and already being a 15m seller before it launched on PS4/XBONE this month. Metroid Prime 4 and Pikmin 4 will probably be in the 3-4m range, Prime 4 *maybe* having a little more potential to go up to 5m.

Nintendo really have their work cut out for them with their next console.

Do switches still come prepacked with Mario Kart? I know the OLED doesn't.

Great to see Splatoon doing so well!

Update on games I was playing;

God of Ragnarok is great but I wanted to finish it before Tears and am only about 50% in (maybe less.) So it's gonna be just like 2017 all over again with me balancing Zelda and a Playstation titan (Horizon and Persona back then) at the same time.

I dunno if I'll ever be able to beat the final boss in Rogue Legacy but at 55+ hours I've got my money's worth already. I love how, even though I've done like a hundred runs in it, they still manage to surprise with new stuff every now and then, like randomly finding a staff that shoots crows at people. :funny:

Brilliant Diamond ... ehh the lack of any challenge is starting to bring me down on it, and I'm already playing with made up rules like permadeath. It's still a nice comfort game to play for 10-20 minutes before I go to sleep though.

edit* just looked it up and see that Ragnarok's story is 26 hours while getting 100% is 52. I'm only at 15 lol. Have been doing the side quests, but not obsessing about collectables too much except for upgrades to health and rage.

There is a Standard Switch Mario Edition that comes with a digital code for one of three Mario games (your choice) that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is one of.

The 96 MC score for Tears of the Kingdom isn't exactly surprising, it's Zelda, but it's still reassuring and very nice to see. With all the performance talk in the industry of the past year or two, I was curious if some reviewers might dock it a point or two just because it dipped from 30fps sometimes (assuming it does in similar situations/areas as BOTW).

No. We're getting a physical copy and the nearest Gamestop is about 70 minutes away from me now. (I live in the middle of nowhere lol.)

Going to take the chance that the local Walmart has it in the morning. Last game we got on launch there was Splatoon 3 and I had to wait 15-20 mins for someone to find the case in the back. -_- Granted, I went in at 7am. At least they had them for launch though.

I never finished it either lol. But I loved the gameplay loop and it works perfectly for me so it's an easy must-buy.

The only times I've ever beat Ganon were in Majoras (or whatever the final boss was), Skyward Sword and Link Between Worlds. But I always log alot of hours and find them to easily be worth the price.

Just started Tears myself, so stoked for Matt Mercer, I have been binge watching Critical Role since last August.

Husband is playing first. Watching him the past couple hours and it looks just as fun as BOTW, and is taking the creativity to a new level.

One of the best parts of BOTW was being able to reach areas or complete tasks in a number of different ways. It left it up to the gamer to think and decide what to do with no one or correct answer. I think TOTK has taken this approach and has multiplied it exponentially from early observations.

I mean, people were still finding new ways to do things in BOTW years after it was out. GameSpot released a new "Things You Didn't Know" video earlier this year even!

I didn't read any reviews, but did see one on MC say that BOTW felt like the prototype or something to TOTK. I imagine that's going to be the universal opinion.

So, since we were talking about the 60FPS diff earlier in the week, I gotta say its a little jarring to go back and forth from Tears to the graphical powerhouse that is God of War Ragnarok. I do wish they had launched a new system alongside it, but being able to get this thing on the Switch in working condition is a miracle on its own before you even consider how great the game (probably) is.

And again its my fault for not finishing God of War in time. :funny:

The minecrafty building feature was a surprise. I love building bridges and rafts, but I wonder if it'll become frustrating later in the game when you can't find the hooks you're looking for lol.

So, TOTK is much larger than I was expecting. I don't know if I missed it in the trailers (only watched each once), or if Nintendo revealed it in any Tweets (also missed them if so), but there was a major part of the game that I had no clue about.

Starting it tomorrow, but before then, gonna rank all the Zelda games I've played first!

01. Breath of the Wild (10/10)
02. Ocarina of Time (10/10)
03. The Wind Waker (10/10)*
04. Twilight Princess (10/10)
05. Skyward Sword (9.5/10)
06. Majora's Mask (9.5/10)
07. A Link Between Worlds (9/10)
08. Link's Awakening (9/10)*
09. A Link to the Past (9/10)
10. The Minish Cap (9/10)
11. Oracle of Seasons & Ages (8.5/10)
12. Four Swords Adventures (8.5/10)
13. Phantom Hourglass (8/10)
14. Spirit Tracks (8/10)
15. The Legend of Zelda (7/10)

*HD remake of Wind Waker on Wii U is a lot better than the already great GameCube original (graphics are sharper; improvements made to sailing; Triforce Shard quest improved; Game Pad works wonderfully with the sea charts).
*Switch remake of Link's Awakening is better all-around than the Game Boy original.

I also think the HD remakes of Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are better than the originals, but the improvements aren't as big as with Wind Waker HD.

Only main series games I haven't played are The Adventure of Link (well, I may have way back as a kid at some point on the NES, but I don't remember it enough) and Tri Force Heroes (only main series game to get mixed reviews, so I was a bit iffy on getting it).

The original Legend of Zelda needs a remaster like Link's Awakening on the Switch.

And for those interested, here are the sales! (Yes, you can Google them, but they're here now!)

Tears of the Kingdom will probably be Nintendo's second fastest selling game ever (would be crazy/unrealistic I think if it beat Pokemon Scarlet/Violet's 10 million launch weekend), and might be able to crack the top 5 in its launch. Splatoon 3 did 7.9 million in three weeks. That could be a good goal for TOTK's launch week?

Spoiler: show

I didn't get the 3D remakes of Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. Both received nearly equal reviews as the originals, too, so I should have picked them up. (Still can, but I wonder if they're pricey now.)

I posted the Nintendo sales data the other day, but I also want to share what they're doing in Japan itself right now. It's pretty mind-boggling:

So this happened: Just doing some exploring and a star fragment comes shooting by and I catch it midair. I know crazy stuff has happened in BotW and even more in TotK, but I feel this has got to be way up there considering their rarity and just happening to be there at the right time in the sky.

Pics in spoilers just in case of spoiler:

I'm not a game person but I remember enjoying Mario Kart back in the 90s. I guess it was on the SNES or N64. I don't remember.

As for what game I last played, well I don't really play "videogames" as such. I play the Scrabble app and Quiz Planet, and I still play Wordle, but I suppose the last proper game I played would be a sniper game I downloaded last year. Can't even the remember the name. I uninstalled it as I completed it.

Well, Tears of the Kingdom actually managed to sell over 10 million copies in 3 days, tying the record for biggest launch for Nintendo and for any exclusive game in history alongside Pokémon Scarlet/Violet.

-Ties record for biggest Exclusive title launch week (alongside Pokémon Scarlet/Violet).
-Ties record for biggest Nintendo launch week (alongside Pokémon Scarlet/Violet).
-Biggest launch for a Zelda title ever (by a massive margin).

Reported sales by country: US: 4 million+ (New record for Nintendo), JP: 2.24 million, FR: 500,000 (retail only; new overall record), SP: 170,000+ (2nd highest launch ever for Nintendo).

Worldwide, its first 3 days make it the second best selling Zelda game of all-time already if you exclude the remakes/ports. If you include them, it's still the fourth best selling after three days.

And the Japan launch was the 7th biggest ever, which makes it the second best selling Zelda game ever in the market already. And the launch was 6x higher than any previous Zelda title.

Not too surprised considering the hype around it and abundance of Switches out there in the wild.

Game recommendations please!

I ended up not being a fan of Fallen Order. Glad I found that on sale before paying full price for Survivor. It’s just so empty and there’s nothing going on. Nothing beyond running through generic planets slicing stormtroopers.

I like lots of stuff to collect, interact with, varied game play. Hogwarts Legacy was exactly what i was looking for.
