It's not as big of a deal as the GIF makes it look. Cavendish did what's typical in the sport, expecting the Korean guy to pull ahead of him (they more or less take turns at the head of the pack) and the guy didn't follow through. Cavendish could have paid more attention to where he was going, but it wasn't that big of a deal. One of the guys who fell ended up winning the gold, because this isn't the sort of cycling event where "Who does all the laps the fastest" is how it works.

Still makes for an awesome looking GIF though. :funny:

The gold medal winner was able to get back up and finish the race, whereas the first guy he took out was taken to the hospital.

Maybe this event is worth watching as a two-wheeled demolition derby.
