I know we've got a few Simmons fans on here, and he's by far the most well-know internet personality in the sports world, so this is thread worthy. I guess its not really that surprising, he's been in total Gives No Fucks mode since his three week suspension, and I love Grantland but its not exactly blowing up the charts. I wonder how much of his staff he will take with him, to what I presume will be a brand new website, and if Grantland will even survive without him. Should be interesting to watch. I always thought he had late night talk show potential, but without a platform that will be hard to accomplish.

He is going to burn ESPN down on his way out. And it will be glorious.

Nah he shouldn't do that. He'd be better keeping it classy. His new website will be fine, but if he pisses off Disney then it will severely limit the contributors/guests he'll be able to get.

Well... I meant more specifically a few ESPN "reporters".

I thought to hear Grantland will keep existing with him as EIC he just won't to any (other) ESPN stuff anymore.

I think no ESPN will hurt his reach, but he'll find aplenty a crowd in someway I think, he's popular enough for that.

The same company that stands behind Stephen A. Smith, Ray Lewis and Britt McHenry thinks Simmons calling out Roger Goodell is crossing the line...

Yep. They're his little whore keeping daddy Goodell happy.

Joking aside, I do hope that the BS Report gets a proper send-off at least. Eight years worth of shows (I've been listening consistently for four or five), repeatedly on top the iTunes podcast chart, it'd be a shame for it to just disappear.

You're crazy Magnus. He will do 100k per month on Patreon easy. Simmons has influence. His column has gone downhill, but his writing style still makes it better than most sports columns.

Surprised to hear that Grantland is a clear cut money loser. I guess they pay out a ton in writer salaries and aren't the most revenue-driven clickbait type of site (and podcasts apparently make jack shit) so even with a lot of readers they don't cover it. Still, ESPN makes like 3 billion a year, not to mention are owned by fucking Disney, so they can easily afford to overpay for Simmons, Grantland, 30 for 30 compared to what they make back, because of critical acclaim, brand respect and interest, etc. It's like an expensive bottle of champagne to a rich asshole. This is probably more about Simmons pissing the wrong people off behind the scenes.

I didn't like Grantland at the start, why did I have to go to another place to read his stuff. But then there's actually some other cool writers on that site as well. Simmons is the only one I read religiously, there's just no better at mixing sport, humor and pop-culture together.
