Like I’m for all analytics. No complaints. But surely the computers must have noticed that every Rays pitcher but one was getting beat up by Bettes, Seager, Turner (who stayed in the dugout after tested positive for covid in the 7th inning...)and Muncy. Shouldn’t the numbers then support letting that one guy pitch to them rather than someone who had been getting destroyed by those same four guys? Come on!

Lindor having a negative WAR rating is making that trade a little easier to digest. I still maintain that the Dolans (and any other billionaires that are "too poor" to compete) should sell the team to someone who cares.

So this Ohtani guy seems not bad.

And Stephen A. Smith had some comments about him (his English language ability) and I think they're not unjustified. Why do we need to pretend that it's just the athletic ability that matters, yeah, it probably should certainly matter the most as that's the core principle of the sport. But we're humans, not robots, and we're drawn to more than just simple emotionless displays. We are flawed, and we should accept that people are different and that there are different view points. Sure, we shouldn't hate on a guy, like Ohtani just because he doesn't speak a language, but I think it's just so fair to be realistic about it, that purely from a character perspective, him being able to express himself in English, or may it be any other favorable non-sports related trait, could simply make him more popular/ marketable, it's just how we humans are wired and that's not going to change.

SAS comments were dumb, I think by being asian Ohtani stands out more than Trout who is one pace to be one of the best players ever but is weirdly not famous enough due to how boring he is. Which probably says more about baseball losing its water cooler status as much as anything else, I think if Trout was a QB it wouldn't really matter if he lacked personality, eventually people get used to them. Even in the case of Ohtani imagine how much people would be following it if a pitcher was hitting 50 home runs in the Bonds/McGwire type of era? If there was a ever a year for baseball to feel important again it would probably be this one as there's also some other stuff going on like Jacob DeGrom having insane pitching season and Trevor Bauer rape situation but it still feels somewhat secondary. Overall I feel baseball is not translating well to a generation where people can watch Netflix or youtube etc., it's just asking too much to have 162 3 hour games and still care about any other teams, it used to be a great fit because people could have something to flip channels to every day or have on in the background but that is not needed as much anymore. My idea would be pull off the bandaid and make it 7 inning games, the stat guys would get pissed but 2 hours of anything vs 3 is a huge difference psychologically (as seen by movies) and people could actually watch their team's game and then follow it up with an Ohtani Angels game or Red Sox/Yankees and not have it be as crazy a commitment time wise.
