Re: The Tennis Thread
Naomi Osaka just won her third grand slam and she will be 23 in October. I could easily see her getting into double digits in terms of Grand Slam wins, she is going to be the legit successor to Serena once she retires.

Re: The Tennis Thread
The Men's final this year is so boring. Both players played 2 decent sets each when the other player was down. The fifth set started well but has been boring after first exchange of breaks mostly ends in few shots with errors from either of the players. I do not think Thiem deserves to win this based on his performance today.

Thiem wins it in the end. I like the effort from the guys but I am so glad that the match was over.

He's better on clay though Yes but there is no transition time this year and he obviously decided to not play Rome. I am not saying its impossible or that Rafa is not vulnerable this year as he was in the past few years but it just feels like Thiem would not be the one to do it, at least not this year.

Nadal wins 13th French Open crown. In 7 months he will have a chance to equal Sampras' previous total grand slams record with just French Open

Re: The Tennis Thread
The ATP 500 competition will take place in Barcelona from 19 to 25 April. Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Fabio Fognini will play at the Barcelona Open BancSabadell. It should be interesting. Rafael Nadal is my favorite tennis player and I hope he wins the competition. Another interesting piece of news lately is that Nadal has agreed to play a match with Federer at the opening of the renovated Real Madrid stadium. What do you think about this kind of tennis match?

Re: The Tennis Thread
Huge win by Djokovic, had the makings of a 5 set classic but he caught fire in the 4th, and still probably one of the best 4 set matches of all time. However he has to make sure he doesn't lose the final this time.

Re: The Tennis Thread
Indeed a huge win for Djokovic. First three sets (specially the third) were brilliant. Nadal faded away in 4th set. I don't think the match in itself was overall great but there were many shots of brilliance in it.

Re: The Tennis Thread
Indeed. Tsitsipas has been winning entire year but falters in last three sets to a battered Djokovic. Wimbledon this year will be very interesting.

Re: The Tennis Thread
Medvedev has been one of the best hard court players for last few years. It good that he finally won a slam on Hard courts. He has the right tools to become someone big and US Open has been open to men's players outside big 3 for quiet sometime now.

Re: The Tennis Thread
Great match, Nadal kept grinding and put Medvedev against the wall last set. Some great shotmaking from both sides. Happy for Nadal.

Re: The Tennis Thread
As shocking as the Luck retirement considering the timing at #1 and holding 2 of 3 majors. Presumably baby fever which is as powerful as years of getting pounded by 300 pound lineman.
Between this and Osaka possibly being mentally washed looks like there's going to be a lot of women's major winners with European names that I haven't heard of in the next few years. I will cheer for Maria Sakkari who is cute in a jacked way.

Well, it's political, and there's two sides to it.
But I think the athletes' nationality is secondary and instead should allow them to compete as "neutrals".

Re: The Tennis Thread
He's incredible, Fed getting to 20 first, especially getting the last two at much older age where huge achievements. But Nadal the way he is still grinding now, just in awe of it.
