1. Gostowski makes a PA the game ends up in overtime. 2. Patriots have a 4&1 with 4:30 left and decide to go for it. Because they've been able to move the ball at will on Denver... Or they could've kicked a field goal. Final score would've been 22-20. But in the same year where they called that onside kick against the Eagles, I can't say I'm shocked that their ego got in the way.
Denver played masterfully on defense though. As Simms said, they have a Super Bowl defense. And they'll need it because I don't see them scoring more than 20 against the Panthers or Cardinals. With so little time left, you can't assume you'd get the ball back, though. Have to try and score there.

It was probably because it was 1 yard, if had been more they probably would have kicked the FG. I question the play they called, throwing a pass short of the first down isn't a very good play.

I am almost fine with the play... but yeah, the route should've gone past the 1st down marker rather than rely on a missed tackle.

And NE had one TD the whole game, coming on a short field.

Re: 2015-2016 NFL Discussion Thread
Calvin was good, but also one of the most overrated players of his time, no question. Touchdown production is extremely weak in comparison to other all timers. He never had much agility or quickness, which is huge for receivers. He had a couple of truly great statistical years, but his production often came at the expense of the offense. He had nearly 2,000 receivers yards on an absurd 205 targets on a losing team and poor offense. Defenses didn't even game plan for him much that season, as if they were content letting them drive down, knowing they could not do anything in the red zone.
5 touchdowns all season on 205 targets is absurd when you consider prime Randy Moss once scored 4 touchdowns in two quarters - all against all double and triple teams - back in 2007. Before anybody points to Brady, none of the throws were overly impressive at all. Moss simply couldn't be defended. Prime Owens once had 4 in a game too, and like Moss, they were all very different - it wasnt the QB, the WR was just amazing. Calvin was good, but he could not score at an all time rate - not even close.
He was good, no doubt. But he is not close to Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Jerry Rice etc in terms of game changing threat. Not a chance. He's one of those guys who I feel guilty about putting down, but the hype around him was not deserved. He couldn't make a poor offense great. He was just a possession receiver with a cannon armed QB who threw him the ball every other play during an ultra pass heavy era.
His tape does not a show player who is even close to level of unstoppableness that prime Moss, Owens, Rice, et al. Maybe not even Fitzgerald.
That said, it was clear he had lost several steps last year and that his body was breaking down severely. He is making the right call. Enjoy the next 50+ years of your life doing whatever you want.

Re: 2015-2016 NFL Discussion Thread
As a lifelong Lions fan, I thought for sure he would take us to the promise land, finally. But I believe his talents were wasted on this subpar team. When Stafford was on, Calvin was on. I do not think he was overrated. He was the best receiver in the game who had a mediocre offense to try to help him succeed. Kitna, Culpepper, Orlovsky, Hill, Stafford... these guys would make Moss, Owens, etc. look just as good (or disappointing) as Calvin. A WR can only do so much without a quality QB under center. Imagine Calvin catching passes from Brady or Rodgers. Then there would be no argument at all about overrated. I'll miss him out there but I understand his decision.

I hope Denver wins. Then Peyton can happily retire. Plus their D was awesome against New England, they'll need to be again.

Gaga was great. Kinda disappointed in the movie spots so far. None of them stand out to me as take notice WOM generators. Maybe Bourne because most people probably wouldn't have expected it.

For the 50th superbowl, that was seriously the worst halftime show ever.
