With Na Li joining her. Congrats on sucking on your serve slightly less than Venus in the final set.

But what resolve! Down and almost out, but came back at the end.

Totally! Gotta give her alot of credit for coming back the way she did.

God dman Serena what the hell!

She's up 5-4 and couldn't take care of it in the 2nd and let it coast to a tie break.

BOO

Woo. Coming back from 0-4 in the 2nd. I thought she was giving up then but she finally took the 2nd in a tiebreak.

On to the 3rd...I can't go to sleep now!

Justine vs Serena

Just like old times. I'm concerned for Serena in this match even though Justine is still struggling somewhat with her serve she still has the power, the speed and that backhand. Serena has really struggled her last two matches but she's been able to pull through. I'm hoping she remains focused against Justine because if she gets down against her I don't think she'll be able to rebound like she was against Avarenko and Li.

Plus, if Justine wins this I'm going to state she wins the French as well.

I like how both finals on paper appear to be extremely competitive. The organizers couldn't have gotten anything better other than a Fed/Rafa rematch. Missing out on a Williams semi clash was a bummer but all the viewers they pulled from China must have been amazing.

Fed looked impregnable against Tsonga. The guy was just steam rolling him. I woke up at 3:30 to catch the middle of the 2nd and final set. It was all over by 4:30.

I fully expect Roger to add to his Grand Slam count and hope Serena can add to hers.

I think you could have said that the moment she announced her return from retirement.

I'm expecting Serena to take this one, Justine's serve is incredibly shaky, and Serena usually picks it up for finals. I just hope that it's a competitive match, hopefully three sets.

Speaking of the French open, is it just me because I can't recall the past winners since Justine won it. Maybe Ana Ivanovic but who else?

How could you forget such tennis giants as Svetlana Kuznetsova (2009) and Anatasia Myskina (2004)? You remembered Ana Ivanovic (2008) who has done absolutely nothing since.

Justine hasn't lost a set at RG since the 2005 QF against Kuznetsova, if I recall correctly.

Congrats to Serena for winning her 12th title. It was a tough match which could have gone either way in the 3rd set but Serena was able to string things together while Justine got pretty lose on her service games and began making more unforced errors.

I think the favorites for the French will be Justine, Clijsters, Williams and Kuznetsova.

How high in the rankings does Justine go? I vaguely remember hearing some where in the low-teens if she made the finals. If memory serves Clijsters got in the high teens after winning the US open, so I don't know.

She's got enough points for #38, but she won't be ranked until she plays another tournament. So whichever tournament she plays next, probably in Dubai, or the Indian Wells tournament, she'll be once again unranked.

Guess there are no more tennis fans on this forum. :disgust:

Congrats to Federer for winning his 16th major and trouncing Andy Murray. I think he an extremely good shot at finally winning the grand slam that he's been so close to. He'd have his Fed slam had it not be for Potro but hey.

I dunno I just can't get as pumped up about Federer's titles after Rafa surpassed him and took over #1 in the world. I feel like Roger is only winning these by default. It's still amazing that he's back on a 3 of 4 majors pace, but yeah, it doesn't have the same impact as pre Rafa #1 to me

The second major of the year begins tomorrow with the French Open at Roland Garros.

Is the fourth Roger/Rafa final in five years in store? And who will emerge from the top quarter of the women's draw containing Serena, Henin, Sharapova and emerging clay court powerhouse Stosur?

As long as Roger makes the Semis, that's all I care about in the men's competition.

I"m happy to see Serena and Venus atop the rankings again. I love the fashion expression that Venus brought to the court on Sunday.

Yes, Roger will at least make the semi; that's one streak he really cares about and feels proud of.

At this point, that's really my primary hope for Roger. At least, it's more likely than beating Nadal in the final.

My concern with his draw is that he would face Soderling in the quarters, and while he did take him out easily in the final last year, that kind of pressure won't be on Soderling this time, and he's always dangerous.

Poor Safina. Her ranking is going to plummet after losing to Date-Krumm

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The streak ends for Roger. Had to happen eventually and at least it came against a high quality player.

As for that record of 23 str8 GS semifinals, I think that's probably the 2nd greatest record in men's tennis behind Rogers total GS record.

I would probably even put it in front of that. The GS record is - so far - slightly better than the previous one by Sampras, while the semifinal streak is a whole new dimension and will likely not be broken for a long period of time. Same goes for the final streak, which was something like 18 out of the last 19.

And Federer played a good match. If he had won that 10th game in the 3rd set, his streak could have easily been in tact.

Soderling was just pounding the ball all over the place. He seemed to be going for winners every chance he got and they were just dropping in all the time. Soderling has one long wind up on his forehand to but when it goes off it's 100% power.

Since I can't watch the match live at the moment since I don't know my cox account to use espn3, I've been forced to listen to the Williams Stosur match via rolandgarros.com radio presentation.

At first when I started listening to the match, I was pretty disgusted with the commentators as they were filling real time play with general conversation but as the match has progressed I've grown to enjoy the conversation and commentating especially when they switched one of the commentators during the 2nd set.

As for the match, Serena was blown off the court in the 1st set partly due to her absolutely terrible play. Then in the 2nd set Serena was on the verge of defeat multiple times and her service games were absolute trials just to get 1st serves in but somehow Stosur tightened up and we go to a tie break and Serena cruises in that.

Now in the 3rd, Williams is up a break and somewhat settled but it's still anyone's game...

GL Serena!
