This is a bummer. Was actually really looking forward to that match. You never see the tag titles get that kind of main event storyline. Having Drew and Roman out there as enforcers is basically the same thing so why reduce the stakes of the match to nothing? And even if they change it to an "all the titles are on the line" match it would still be lame because all the suspense would be gone. No way The Bloodline is losing.

I don't know... I guess it was just a last minute thing to get Reigns on the card.

Just saw that the last time the IC title was defended at a PPV was WrestleMania 37. That's a yikes statistic. I wonder if this has been the longest period ever.

It's not being defended this Sunday either. In fact, only ONE title is being defended on Sunday, the SmackDown Women's Title.

And they abandoned the "unification" of not just the tag titles, but also the WWE/Universal titles, right? Reigns is being treated like the an undisputed champion of sort with both titles. And McIntyre's recent comments suggests Reigns could lose one title but not the other. This hasn't been a unification (bring together, consolidate, combining things, etc.) at all.

Backlash was pretty decent for what it was - rematches that will lead to more rematches. I liked Edge/AJ, Ronda/Charlotte more than their Wrestlemania matches, but really don't need to see them all again in the Cell. Also, when was the last time a WWE ppv only had one title match? Though the short six match card was refreshing in its own way.

Was Rhea using Blue Steel or Magnum during her big reveal?

That ladder/chair spot by Darby tonight... I love big spots as much as the next guy, but sheesh.

I didn't watch Backlash, but good to see something different from Rhea.

I've been skipping Edge's stuff lately, but I watched his last two promos. I can't get excited about the "You people are all ugly and losers and you smell and you're virgins and did I say you're ugly?!" promos. I wish it was more than that. With Edge at the helm, I have hope this will boost Rhea and Damien, but it didn't much help Luke Gallows or Serena Deeb when they were with CM Punk and The Straight Edge Society.

House of Edge = lame.

Darby Allen is a crazy man. Weird that he lost, but the Jeff Hardy v Adam Cole match is the quickest way to get to Hardys v Bucks at Double or Nothing so I'm ok with it.

Speaking of DoN, the card is already really stacked. I don't know how much more they can add without it feeling overbloated.

We have:

Punk v Hangman
MJF v Wardlow
Rosa v Deeb
Men's Owen (probably Cole v Joe)
Women's Owen (not sure about who wins this since all they've built towards is Toni Storm v Baker and that is actually happening in the second round. Maybe Ruby Soho finally gets her big moment?)
Young Bucks v Hardys
Jurassic Express v Team Taz v Swerve/Lee
Sammy/Tay Conti v Paige Van Zant and either Scorpio or Ethan Page
Something with Jericho v Blackpool Combat Club

That's nine matches already (10 with Hookhausen on the preshow) without even having FTR, the hottest act in the company, on the card. No Darby and Sting either. Or Jade. Or House of Black v Death Triangle. Or Andrade who has looked great recently. I guess they can throw the guys in the casino battle royale on the preshow but that's weak.

Darby Allin is indeed crazy. Some of his stunts are insane. I was equally amazed when Ethan Page just threw him down stairs. Shocking he hasn't had a major injury in AEW yet.

I couldn't tell, did Jeff sense Darby overshot the jump and tried to grab him? Good on Jeff to have the quick instincts.

Double or Nothing was my first AEW PPV I watched in 2021, and I've honestly been pumped for most of their PPVs since. Unlike WWE, who needs to drastically reduce their PPVs, every PPV seems to mean something. That's the benefit of four shows a year. I know they do lots of televised events on Dynamite.

The Double or Nothing card is indeed stuffed, but, as Flava'd said, is also missing some big names. Every match scheduled/planned deserves a spot though. Is the Sammy/Tay match happening though? I thought I read Sammy had an injury (nothing serious, at least, since it's still appearing on TV).

And I guess the Women's Owen Final will be Storm/Soho.

What do you guys think of the MJF to WWE rumors/speculation? MJF remains in character on social media, and he's an excellent heel, so I don't really know if his grievances (seems to largely be a money issue?) with AEW are legit or not. But his current character couldn't even appear on WWE television. Almost all his promos would be watered down if not reworked entirely.

Scorpio Sky's heel turn does seem to put that mixed tag match in doubt. So I guess we replace that with a pair of battle royales to get everyone else on the card.

Sami Zayn pretending he's a member of the Bloodline is legit pretty funny.

MJF's still has another year or two on his contract, but yeah, both his on-screen persona and real life agents should be pushing this "maybe I'll go to WWE" narrative as hard as possible. He deserves all the money.

Unfortunately WWE's naming policy pretty much guarantees that unless he gets some sort of Cody Rhodes deal, MJF would never get any kind of freedom he gets at AEW. I know the name isn't everything but the idea of them renaming him Matt Freeman (shortened to Freeman of course) is a travesty waiting to happen.

I understand the reason behind re-naming people in WWE. They're sick of seeing Adam Cole, Keith Lee, Toni Storm, etc. all going to AEW with their names intact. But man, it pretty much means if you want to go to WWE, it's strictly for the money and you better hope it lasts until retirement or you'll have to rebrand yourself if you leave. Or especially if they release you.

A lot of drama going on with WWE and Sasha Banks and Naomi, it appears. WWE even released an official statement (reads as a sort of veiled attack against Sasha and Naomi, too) apologizing to fans for Sasha/Naomi not abiding by their contracts and performing as scheduled in the main event of RAW, apparently.

I'd almost consider it a work, but WWE calling RAW a scripted TV show themselves, and revealing how Sasha and Naomi had 8 hours to rehearse and construct their match (breaking the 4th wall again), it definitely *sounds* like a real conflict.

Post Re: Wrestling (WWE, IMPACT, NXT, AEW)
I hope this serves as a catalyst for something. Wrestling/sports entertainment are always going to have conflict between personalities and egos. No promotion will be able to satisfy everyone. But WWE has got to do something and stop booking and planning shows hours before an event airs on television. Because that's generally what RAW and Smackdown feel like most weeks.

The women's tag division, if you can call it a division, is useless. All they've done is throw random women together, had them hold the titles for a bit against other random teams, rinse repeat. Honestly, the titles should never have been created. Who have been legit teams since they were created? The IIconics. Bayley and Sasha. Isn't that pretty much it? Everyone else have been thrown together for a short time.

And that is only the beginning. There is no reason why the IC and US titles are not defended on most PPVs. I'm genuinely struggling right now to remember who even has either title. Ricochet? And... I don't know. And I can't even remember which one Ricochet has. Say whatever you want about AEW, they have issues, but I can at least tell you right away Jade Cargill and Scorpio Sky are their TBS and TNT Champions.

And there should not be two champions for either show. One world champion, one women's champion, one tag champs. The roster isn't deep enough or strong enough to merit all those titles.

Meanwhile it looks like we're going into a second PPV with no world championship defense. It's scary WWE is that confident they don't need a world title defense on two consecutive PPVs. Maybe that'll change before HIAC, since they only have two matches announced.

Kabuki Warriors, but I think that's it with the other two you mentioned. I don't even recall if all three were around when they were introduced.

I'm all for Women's Tag Titles, but when you've cut the roster so much (including actual active tag teams like the Iconics and Tegan Nox) to where you're seemingly forced to just toss random women together (even swapping partners after a few months!) in order to even get a division... well...

There's almost no woman apart of a tag team that hasn't had a partner from another tag team... I think Natalya has even had 3 different partners (Naomi, Tamina, and Shayna, right?) over the past 2 years.

I don't know if we'll know everything that's going on between WWE and Sasha/Naomi. If rumors are true..., they're not at Smackdown tonight, and WWE is expected to announced they're indefinitely suspended (which may involve stripping them of the titles). If so, sounds like they'll pass it off as a storyline for now. But for Sasha and Naomi to walk out before their match, I have to believe it's a big deal. Even if you're unhappy, doing something that could cost you your job (I'd assume both have decently paying contracts, too) is pretty drastic and not just a simple act of dissatisfaction. Plus, that statement released by WWE was unlike any work statement I've ever seen, suggesting there's clearly a problem (of their own creating, of course).

I wouldn't be too surprised if Sasha and Naomi, especially Sasha (again, rumors may just be that, but there's seemed to have been some tension between her and management over the years), don't come back though. Or if they do, it'll be way down the road in a resigning.

Also,

Stephanie is taking a leave of absence from WWE. Honestly, when she and HHH seemed to have more control (like... ~2015-2019 or so), things were quite good, or at least heading in a good direction. People hate on Stephanie, but from what I can tell, she did do a lot for the women's division based on the talent's reaction. I do have legit doubts the women's division would have seen the boon it did for a few years there without her (look at it now...).

But since most everything seems pretty much fully back with Vince and co. (~2020-), it's taken a severe nosedive.

Good call on the Kabuki Warriors. Forgot about them, maybe because it was a bit of a sour moment for Asuka considering they had fucked up her main roster debut.

I can't help but wonder about the timing of Stephanie's leave of absence so soon after the Monday incident with Sasha and Naomi. Is there responsibility on her part? Is their frustration on her part over how the women (and the company overall) are booked? Or is it legit a family-related issue?

Nick Khan seems to be purging his competition. HHH, Shane and Steph all within a year. It's the behind the scenes version of Mark Henry's 'Hall of Pain' run.

Also, if WWE is throwing Sasha/Naomi under the bus so publicly and making a story out of it, there must be a lot we still haven't learned.

Michael Cole, forever the corporate shill. I understand he has a job to do, but I wonder if he ever stops and looks himself in the mirror after he says a line like "after they disappointed millions of fans". Someone is disappointing millions of fans on a weekly basis, and it isn't Sasha or Naomi.

I guess there's still a slight chance that this is some crazy work, but I saw mentioned (haven't checked myself) that Sasha and Naomi related merch has been removed from the WWE shop. Unless WWE is compensating them for lost income generated from merch sales, this seems certain to be a real issue.

Also... what a dick move to remove their stuff, if true. It's probably in their contracts (don't perform on a show and fulfil your agreed upon contract, then we can remove your merch, yadda yadda), but still. It seems merchandise sales represent a decent amount of income. If Google is accurate, a wrestler receives 25% of the sale if they're the sole talent on that piece (gets split if multiple wrestlers are present). I have seen it may depend on the individual contract though in the percentage share of merch sales they receive.

Besides, removing their merch, when I would expect sales to spike following this from fan support definitely doesn't seem like something a company would do if it was trying to convince people it's a work. That's lost money for them, too.

It seems AEW might have their own issue with MJF, or MJF with them, or they have problems with each other.

It's so hard to tell what's a work/shoot with him in weeks weeks/months (credit to him IF it's actually a work), but his match with Wardlow tomorrow seems up in the air at this point based on reports.

I don't know if this is the same thing as Sasha/Naomi (MJF's seems to me more of a contract/money thing versus creative/booking, but who knows). Like... I hope he doesn't leave, but if things are so bad and he feels he should, then fine, you know. If it's a no-show for his match against Wardlow tomorrow, after so much build up, it'd be a shame. I don't think it hurts Wardlow exactly, but this match would have set him up nicely moving forward.

I really don't know how to feel about it. I guess we'll need to know more. I tried thinking of why this was different from Naomi/Sasha but you're right, it's that their issue ALLEGEDLY was with creative, while his ALLEGEDLY is with contract. Surely it can't be creative, he has to be putting over Wardlow tonight and knew it all along.

The reason why I assume it's not a work is that he no-showed a fan meet & greet. I feel like that's a pretty big no-no.

Anyway I don't know. I'm not sure how to feel if it's in any way a work and they're blurring lines. This doesn't help tonight's match at all if it's a work. It overshadows what should be a big moment for Wardlow.

I know when you're worth it, you want the money, but I can't imagine wanting to go to WWE and getting creatively castrated. If he were to show up on WWE this week, his best bet would be being a part of LA Knight/Max Dupri's modeling team. That's a big yikes.

I'm seeing a lot of speculation that it's a work, and if it is... not into it. My dealbreaker is the fan meet and greet. If he was scheduled to be there and people went to see him, you can't fuck with that for storyline/a work. Fucking with fans in a passive way (basically this whole story of him leaving, minus the meet and greet) is bad enough but I would kind of get it. But to have him not show to a meet and greet for a work is just bad. I'd be pissed if I went, specifically to see him, and found out later he no-showed as a work.

I'm at the point now where I don't want either to be true. Don't want it to be a work, and don't want it to be true.

Lots of thoughts on DoN last night. I'll share later today/tomorrow.

How was it live, Flava'd? If you still went, that is.
