The 'American Dad' Thread
It's on now on Fox... what do you guys think? It seems like a copy of the family guy.. no funny jokes yet.

I WISH I was watching it, but Fox is showing nothing but coverage on fans on the streets of Philly.
I think it looked pretty good, though. Maybe I can see it eventually.

OH MY GOD!!! The whole bit with the 19 year old dog was HILARIOUS. Other than that, ehh..
And the Hilary Duff bit was great too.

I was wondering if it was a spoof at all of Arnold's True Lies. Seemed to have some similarities.

Osama, is that you!?
HAHA classic.
Not a bad show .... has some really funny moments. I have a feeling though that the idea cannot last too long if they don't keep developing the characters.

The airing of the show was delayed here in Massachusetts because of the Super Bowl coverage, but I am watching it right now. The show has been on for 5 minutes, and I have only laughed once. I hope this gets much better.

Yup, that to me is a huge downfall. Because come on even the drawings are the same. I think that they need to change it a little bit.

Eh, it was lame. That Law & Order spoof Family Guy commercial was funnier then that whole American Dad episode. I hope McFarlene still has what it takes to make great Family Guy epsiodes.

I thought it was pretty good, not bad at all. It's no Family Guy, but it is a worthy substitute.

I haven't watched it yet, I have it recorded but I don't think it looks that great.

The only difference between American Dad and Family Guy is that it doesn't do cutaways and inserts (or as many). Other than that, yeah, the same show. And I LOVE FAMILY GUY. I was one of sixteen people who watched it religiously on Fox back in the day.
The biology teacher buttoning up his shirt because he couldn't have sex with the frog is classic McFarlene.

I personally thought it was awful. Not funny in the least.
Stick to Family Guy Seth.

I think that most of you forget that when this show first got started (doesn't it take like 9 months to make an episode?) that Family Guy was still cancelled. So, the similarities aren't surprising, nor are they disappointing. I loved the show. Not quite as much as Family Guy, but come on, it's only the pilot. I remember not liking the first episodes of Family Guy or Futurama back when they first started, and of course they only got better. American Dad should be no exception. Give it time, and it will start developing more.

Oh my god what a poor piece of an excuse for a comedy. I had to turn the show off after 15 minutes and I thought that no show would be worse than Father of the Pride. The main reason why its so unfunny was the show thinks its more clever than it really is by making small references to Memento and some other references that only internet geeks would get .Hopefully the show would get canned. I always find it odd that the reefers and internet nerds I know love the FamilyGuy which I also hated King of the Hill which I loved

A shaky start, but it's got the potential to be as good as Family Guy. The only thing that stands out as being rubbish in the first episode (aside from a few obvious jokes - "Hey wanna come back to my apartment and pet my schnauzer? And then we can play with this dog!") is the son. He's annoying, unlikeable, very nearly ginger... what's to like? Hopefully future episodes will focus more on the other characters.

I thought it was alright. There were about two or three moments when I laughed uproariously, but that usually happens about two or three times as much when I watch Family Guy. I'll watch the next few episodes, at least.
