 Titus
Titus Quote: Titus is a 1999 film adaptation of Shakespeare's revenge tragedy Titus Andronicus, about the downfall of a Roman general. It was the first film of the play (aside from TV productions). The film was made by Overseas Filmgroup and Clear Blue Sky Productions and released by Fox Searchlight Pictures. It was the film directorial debut of Julie Taymor who co-produced and wrote the screenplay. It was produced by Jody Patton, Conchita Airoldi and executive produced by Paul G. Allen.

 Re: Titus
Anyone whose seen a trailer to one of her films can tell you that Julie Taymor is a visual genius. What Titus showed me is that she really knows how to make even the ugliest material like Titus soar - there's way more to her talent than just style. Still, one has to be ready to go through some dirty, grimy material - like Bradley warned me, Titus is not for the faint of heart! Luckily, the film was blessed with strong performances across the board that keep the madness together, and while I can see how some would find the 160 minute length daunting, I relished every second of it. And WOW to that final shot, now that was beautiful!
On a sadder note, how can the fool who scored 300 think he could get away with blatantly stealing large portions of the score to this? This wasn't just a similar score - the music in the opening five minutes was virtually the exact same as the first ten of 300! Glad the asshat didn't get away with it.

 Re: Titus
This was great. Visually it's AMAZING, and the story is fascinating and tragic. The performances are all excellent. This is an underseen and underappreciated gem.

SEVERELY underrated. One of my top films for 99.

 Re: Titus
What style! What performances! Hopkins really knocked it out of the fucking park; Alan Cumming is a lot of fun too. The score is also amazing.
I've never read the play, and I don't think I want to, but this is a great, modern adaptation that doesn't feel the need to sacrifice Shakespeare's classicism and trademark wit.
