Post The 'American Idol: Season 5' Thread
It premiers in less than a month...here's the schedule for next season.
Quote:
'Idol' schedule is set
By Bill Keveney, USA TODAY
With less than a month until the premiere of Fox's American Idol, it's not too early for fans to start making viewing plans.

Idol premieres Jan. 17 (8 p.m. ET/PT), with the first of seven audition episodes from San Francisco, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Denver and Greensboro, N.C. Two-hour episodes air Jan. 17 and 24, with one-hour shows Jan. 18, 25, 31 and Feb. 1 and 7 (8 p.m. ET/PT).

Singers who win the judges' approval will move on to Idol's Hollywood round, airing Feb. 8, 14 and 15 (8 p.m. ET/PT). The semifinalists — 12 men and 12 women — will be announced Feb. 15. The men will perform Feb. 21; the women, Feb. 22. The two men and two women with the fewest viewer votes will be eliminated in a Feb. 23 results show (8 p.m. ET/PT).

The top 12 finalists will be announced March 9, with the finals round starting March 14 (8 p.m. ET/PT).

Judge Randy Jackson says the best male and female singers appear to be balanced in ability this season.

"The kids this time probably want this worse than ever," he told reporters in a conference call. "There's quite a bit of interesting fighting and dialogue amongst the contestants."

Also, I have some early spoilers...this is a quote from someone who posts at Idolforums.com, and is supposedly an insider
[spoil]So far I have 5 confirmed names and 1 confirmed description
I will work on getting more ASAP

Confirmed Names

Ace Young: Ace has opened for Brian McKnight and New Edition, he is a white rnb male and I think the judges will pimp him because he is sort of like a Michael Jackson type singer, he has long hair and has done some modelling, he also guest starred on an episode of UPN's 'Half and Half' as himself 'Ace'
Ayla Brown
Becky O'Donahue (Simon's choice to win this season...ALREADY)
Jose Penala: This guy is my tip to win, great voice and range and good image and tone, I can see him doing very well)
Paris Bennett (big voice, very funny and alot of fun, great personality, reminds me of Aloha Mischeaux)

Confirmed Descriptions

17 year old Asian girl: She has an amazing voice, apparently in the same league as Kelly Clarkson according to another Hollywood contestant, could go very far

People who also made Hollywood and not sure of their status, they may have still made the top 24

Bobby Bullard

People who made Hollywood but got cut before top 24

Jayne (filipino female)
Heather (heather apparently is an amazing singer she was also in a photo with Bobby Bullard, Anne Poonkasem and this bald guy, the photo was posted here, thats heather she made the top 24, anne did not even make hollywood, that photo is there tickets for the 3rd round making it to simon, paula and randy not hollywood)
Jordan Southerland (he made it, had another convo with him today but cant reveal what he said but he did make it)

People who did not make Hollywood whose auditions were listed in the paper

Billy Instone
Nolan Muna
Colton Rudloff
Mere Doyle

Thanks for the spoilers, SNickety.

I was watching th news last night and Fox will be doing some reshuffling:

The OC, starting January will move to Thursdays @ 9. That 70's SHow will fill in the previous hour with back-to-back episodes as it will end sometime in the Spring. ONce the Idol semifinal starts, it will have 3 shows: Tuesday (guys), Wednesday (gals), and a one-hour results show on Thursday (8-9).

Well only for the semis where the boys and girls are divided. I think that's only 3 episodes the most.

That's your opinion, but until magazines stop selling like hot-cakes whenever some random celebrity gets married/divorced/knocked-up, I'll take my dose of American Idol guilt-free thank you very much.

Becky O'Donahue

I'm guessing she's the reported Irish girl they gave a standing ovation to in Las Vegas.

Unfortunately... every winner of American Idol will always be in the shadow of Ms. Clarkson... but she is the best... without a doubt.

Say what you want, but racial profiling via someone's name has ALWAYS been an accurate way to get to the facts. :nonono:

So hush up you caucasian, religous, heterosexual virgin!

Anyway... aaw Seacrest can't really pimp 24 anymore as it is on Monday's after Skating... and Prison Break now. He gets to pimp Tuesday's House, Wednesday's Bones, and Thursday's The O.C. (for some weeks) though.

You mean...besides Fantasia. But I agree, Kelly and Fantasia are just in a different league than anyone they'll ever find on that show.

That's a little unfair since Carrie Underwood has only just released her first CD (as has Bo Bice, who's voice is kinda bland and generic to me). If somebody with the slightest bit of marketability would have been at the top of season 3 instead of Ruben and Clay, who anybody should have known were not gonna make it, then we'd see a different picture. I'm not knocking Kelly Clarkson, who I actually like a lot, but it's highly doubtful that she's going to be the Beatles of American Idol.

Also, Kelly completely changed her sound with her latest CD, so it's not like she's even in the shadow of her American Idol win, or her harder rocking sound wouldn't be so successful.

Kelly Clarkson is the crown jewl for American Idol. Even though she's moved past it, Simon and Co can still boast that they were part of her claim to fame. Breakaway's album sales are staggering and shuold be a testament to the show's ability to garner great exposure for it's contestants.

Ruben and Clay made for great TV, but like Mav said, probably don't have the marketability to last much longer.

Fantasia seems to be the critical darling. The fact that she's attracting such big names (Missy, Clive Davis) could be a sign that her sophmore album will benefit from the "Breakaway-factor".

As for Carrie, she hasn't really been out long enough, but she's off to a fast start. I believe her album is the fastest selling Idol-album ever with over 1 million copies sold in only five weeks. It should be interesting to see how she holds up and if she can overcome the sophmore slump.
