Wow.

Pixar has done another one. It looked BEAUTIFUL! The story was GREAT! Sure, not alot of laughs... but I wasn't expecting alot. And a couple one liners, ("The track is always lit! Well, so is my brother, but he still has headlights") oh, and the credits is probably one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

Oh... and I almost cried... when they came to take Lightning away...

9.8/10 A+

Just curious... was any of the movie set on or around Route 66? I saw the Pixar guys at a restaraunt (the Big Texan) on Route 66 a few years back shooting video and supposedly doing research for this movie.

Yeah, I suppose it's funny, at least until your 3 year old granddaughter is killed by a tornado hitting a trailer park...

I do agree that the animation was superb.

The rest...well.

OMG, though, how come I never knew this film had Click and Clack?! On the other hand, I didn't know who any of the voices were going in :/

Yeah, unfortunately, my wife started her radiation treatments this week and she hasn't been up to going out. Maybe soon. We both want to see this in the theatres, of course....

A-

Great film, I loved it. Not on par with most past Pixar flicks but outstanding all the same.

What a conendrum...

The animation was fantastic, the voice-over was great, the story, while not spectacular was still good. The soundtrack was excellent and the ending was superb.

But...their is this inability to connect with an inanimate metal object. So, while most of the film was good, it was hard to get over the fact that it was cars.

Anyway, not my favorite Pixar film, but still pretty amazing. A-

Pixar movies keep getting better and better.

Very lush and vibrant animation. Very good storyline, and very different from Pixar's other efforts. I see you guys are complaining that it is the least humorous of the bunch, but that is not a reason to hate it. They just decided to put the emphasis on the story, and have it build and build to make us root for the character. Towards the end, it did have me rooting for all of them (except the green race car that is, but hey, he's a villian). Oh, and make sure to stay through the end credits, it is probably the best end credit sequence ever. All in all, Pixar has done it again.

A solid A from me.

It was very... nice. Nothing special, and certainly not on par with some other Pixar offerings, but it hit all the beats nicely and told a story thousands of others have before very well.

I still prefer Doc Hollywood, mind.

OK, we went to see it this afternoon.

I was disappointed.

Now, I am obviously a huge Pixar fan as you probably know; I even had Pixar stock until recently when it all became Disney stock.

But while it was still much better than most of the animation that comes out of Hollywood, it was not up to Pixar's usual greatness.

First, the good parts:

The animation is incredible; no one can touch it. When you didn't see the cars' "faces" you would swear it was a photograph. Pixar sets the standards for everyone. Plus the direction is great. If you have a great looking film but the characters don't move properly, show expression well, and, well, act, then it's all for nothing.

The voices were well done, and I liked the small bits of humor here and there. I understand of course that this was not especially meant to be a laugh-out-loud comedy, and so I had no problem with that. (Some people still refuse to accept that animation does not have to equal comedy, and some refuse to accept that even after they see a film -- such as all the people who keep rating "Incredibles" as a comedy when it's really an action-adventure film.)

And I loved the John Ratzenberger bit at the end (but they left out the Underminer from Incredibles!).

The bad parts:

I just didn't really care about the cars or the story. Actually, that's the only bad part, but it's a big bad part. It's very difficult to create characters out of machines to be believable in the first place and making cars come to life for a full feature length film is a daunting task. It's not like they have faces (like at least fish do) or are somewhat human-like (like most of the toys in Toy Story or even the bugs in Bug's Life). So it was an unhill task that never seemed to make it all the way for me.

I think Lightning's "change" came about too fast. There was no turning point, it just seemed that one day he was dying to leave the town and the next day he was happy to stay. That bothered me a bit. I mean, we all knew that was coming, but the fun is seeing how it happens. And I don't know how it happened.

And, also, I know nothing about car racing, don't find it interesting, and therefore didn't really get excited with the race at the end. There were bits I didn't understand either (what's this yellow flag slow down thing they're doing?). So maybe that bothered me too.

I guess, overall, I enjoyed it while it was playing, but it certainly didn't leave me with that feeling of seeing a masterpiece like I usually do with Pixar. I'm not even sure if I will go out and get the DVD and rewatch it like I have done the others...

I'll give it a B- overall, since it is still better than any other animation out there (at least until Flushed Away opens). I'm now predicting an Oscar win for Flushed Away instead of Cars.

See it nonetheless! :) It's not like they have a continous storyline.
