Post Best Movie Posters...Ever
Went by a bookstore today that had these nice books on movie posters. Got me thinking. These are some of my faves.

Image My absolute fovorite. With the little stars around the streetlamp. Makes sense considering her episode on the stage. I own this one. Its frames, and wil;l be up in my bedroom soon enough.

I love that one too. I used to send it to someone who I om'd often around midnight, over at BOM. As a bit of a running joke about gardens. Before I scare the hell out of everyone, I love cemeteries. Absolutely love them. So this poster is really tapping into a whole mix of ideas, and is haunting in every way thinkable. Perfect really, with the light through the trease, and an incredibly unsettling lady justice weighing the scales.

You have any that you love that aren't up there? I was trying to think of some, but my mind was drawing a blank on so many.

There are actually two great posters that i saw today.
The new Narnia one
Image
and the Batman one. Though this one is quite simple, it's what I picture the joker to be like.

The Spellbound poster is pretty cool. Looks as if it's taking cue from an old-school ensemble melodrama.

Forgot about the Bride one. Actually alot of the posters for Kill Bill were really great. Are those the new Narnia ones? They're excellent. I only saw the one neo posted, but I like these even better. I always had a thing for breaking up the image into verticles. That's probably why I like the Spellbound one so much. Verticle thrust always worked better for me than horizontal ones did. Even when I used to paint I would force myself to try painting horizontal and it was always a miserable affair.

My professor once told me verticle images reflected human emphasis, and horizontal ones reflected landscape. The landscape dimensions never worked for me as well.

So yeah, I like those Narnia ones.

Neo, I think that Joker one is a fake. They haven't even cast for the movie. DOn't even know if they're making one. Plus the paint on the back half of the lips is smuddged all over the place. looks doctored from photoshop to me for some reason.

fake or not, that is a sweet ass poster. even though i think it's absurd to resurrect the joker, i have to admit that it would be sweet if he did look like that

Of recent movie posters, my fav is definitely the teaser poster for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Say what you will about the trailers and what-not, but you gotta admit this poster is the shiznit....

Image

I also think the atmosphere of the teaser poster for Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire is very awesome.

(this is the first, unedited version; the second version adds a comma after the word "times")

Forgot about Anatomy and Vertigo. They are great. As far as Charlie Chocolate Factory poster, that one is not as beloved on me as some of the little kid posters they have now. Mainly the two girls though. The Violet and Veruka posters.

Actually, the dawn one and the scarface one share alot in common. With the flat colors and switching between for and back ground. I like those too. Dawn a bit more, only because Pacino's actual photographed head throws me off a bit in the scarface one. Both very nice.

Ugh, the Zombie one is just, ugh, with the eye with the worms...ugh.

The SHining is huge. That face is famous. I was actually going to post it too, but decided against it since I haven't seen the movie, and also, there were so many different versions that popped up when I googled it. Didn't know which head was the proper cropping.

THat's one kind of nice actually. Much better than the comic one, imo. I haven't seen it before. Very calming. The highlight of that movie to me was the animation, not so much the comedy/dialogue, so this poster is really superb.

that's why i love the zombie one...because it gets that type of reaction ;) and the tagline "we are going to eat you!" is an absolute classic.
