March Box Office battle : Predictions
The March slate has seen some shuffling this week and looks to be finally set as below:
MAR 01 Dune Part Two (WB)
MAR 08 Kung Fu Panda 4 (Universal) Imaginary (Lionsgate) Cabrini (Angel)
MAR 15 Arthur The King (Lionsgate)
MAR 22 Ghostbusters Frozen Empire (Sony) Luca (Disney) One Life (Bleecker Street)
MAR 29 Godzilla x Kong:The New Empire (WB)
Like 2023, the slate is packed with huge potential (though this year there is no half billion juggernaut released in early April to crush everything else so legs may be better).
What hits, what misses? Thoughts on openings, total grosses?

Re: March Box Office battle : Predictions
I'll predict totals only. This could be a rare month where all the films do well - though some may not reach their full potential due to the competition.
I've seen One Life and it's a good little film. Should do decent numbers for it's size and type of film.
I also believe Cabrini will be a faith-based hit based on early buzz.
The respite on MAR 15 should help all films - including Arthur the King which should make decent coin.
MAR 01 Dune Part Two (WB) - $255m
MAR 08 Kung Fu Panda 4 (Universal) - $155m Imaginary (Lionsgate) - $70m Cabrini (Angel) - $65m
MAR 15 Arthur The King (Lionsgate) - $45m
MAR 22 Ghostbusters Frozen Empire (Sony) - $150m Luca (Disney) - $10m One Life (Bleecker Street) - $25m
MAR 29 Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (WB) - $160m

Dumb dumb dumb scheduling. Ghostbusters is called FROZEN Empire. Release it in the winter. Late October would work as a family friendly Halloween release too.

Re: March Box Office battle : Predictions
Agreed. It could even go August and clean up with lack of competition. But yes - Fall/Winter would be better.

Re: March Box Office battle : Predictions
I'd pick Dune to win this pretty handily. Panda might flop.

Re: March Box Office battle : Predictions
Yeah, I wasn't hot on Panda either as the last one did sub $140m.
Though with the lack of kids films since Migration and there seems to be a bit of buzz online - it should either match or slightly exceed the last one atleast. We'll see.

Panda 4 can match 3 unadjusted pretty easily.

Re: March Box Office battle : Predictions
I don't understand these massive Dune predictions. The first one only opened to $40M and made less than $110M. Yeah HBO Max but barely anyone had it, and Spider-Man was super massive less than two months later so I don't think COVID was having that much of an effect either. I think it opened close to its max potential, between Blade Runner 2049 and Mad Max: Fury Road which makes sense.
The first film, while undeniably good, was also not the biggest crowd pleaser because it's only half the story. Legs weren't great. And I don't think it's really become iconic or anything in the two years since.
So I don't really see where these massive 150% increase predictions are coming from. I really wouldn't be surprised at a mid 50s opening and $130-150M finish.

Re: March Box Office battle : Predictions
The large Dune predictions come from a place of "I want it to do well". Logic doesn't come into it.
