In light of Russia possibly invading Ukraine I have changed this thread to an international politics one

Re: International politics (China, Russia, UK, etc.)
Things could boil over this week (or next couple of days) it appears. Russia with one foot in the door now. The EU is rolling out sanctions. And from what I've read this past hour, seems likely that Biden is going to announce sanctions against Russia tomorrow.
Japan is expected to join the U.S. and other G7 allies with their own sanctions against Russia, banning chip and other technology-based exports, as well as putting restrictions on Russian banks. According to the news article I just read, the sanctions are far greater in scope than any in the past (like in 2014).

Guessing his goal is to take eastern Ukraine without firing a shot.

Bad timing for the gas prices/inflation to get even worse due to Russia situation. Biden looks like new Jimmy Carter.

Re: International politics (China, Russia, UK, etc.)
Isn't inflation just a way for corporations to combat the push to increase minimum wage by driving up their prices? Seems like a scam to me.
Also, rather than all this posteuring, NATO should put thousands of troops on the border of Belarus and slowly start annexing their territory. Let Putin see how it feels from the other side.

Re: International politics (China, Russia, UK, etc.)
More from our former and future Fearless Leader:
"So Putin is now saying 'its independent' a large section of Ukraine. I said 'how smart is that?' And he's going to go in and be a peacekeeper. That's the strongest peace force. We could use that on the Southern Border. That's the strongest peace force I've ever seen."
3, 2, 1 and all Republicans have now switched their stance to pro-Invasion of Ukraine. Biden getting in their way with these sanctions that will be gone in three years anyways is the real problem here.

Re: International politics (China, Russia, UK, etc.)
Putin has pulled the trigger now. Declaring a "military special operation" as reports of explosions in Kyiv and Kharkiv are coming in now. And he warned that any foreign country that attempts to assist Ukraine will face consequences they've never seen.
The world is going to have to shut him down. They've honestly let him do as he pleases (Georgia, Crimea) for too long and are to blame for the current events as well.
Oh, and yeah, a solid 30% or so of the country will be in favor of anything Putin does because of Trump and his supporters. They're a lost cause.

Re: International politics (China, Russia, UK, etc.)
Yeah with Trump's approval this became a very low risk move for Putin. There's atleast a 50% chance that Trump wins the election in 2024, and another 50% chance he successfully overturns the results if he loses. So an overall 75% chance that these sanctions will be gone in three years.

Re: International politics (China, Russia, UK, etc.)
Putin doesn't want to be bordering NATO countries if ones like Ukraine are allowed to join, however if Russia acquired all of Ukraine, then they'd be bordering I believe 4 NATO countries (Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania) and would be right next to a pissed off Europe. He is better off just taking the east part.

There's a video of a dead child on the street in Ukraine. Did Trump seriously call this invasion "genius"? What a fucking moron.

Trump said on Fox last night that Putin's doing this because of the 2020 election results. Not confirmation on why, but Sweden and Finland are attending the NATO summit. Hopefully they request and are accepted as new members.

I think we are starting to finally realize how underrated President Obama was, and to a smaller degree how underrated Bush was too.

I don't think Trump is a lapdog or a foreign agent. I think he looks at Putin and sees someone that is to be admired. Which, in a way, is even worse considering that he will probably be back in the house that just happens to be white in three years. Based on his quotes, it sounds he is considering doing this same thing to Mexico once he regains control of the military. But no, I don't only blame Trump. Is what Russia did to Ukraine any worse than what America did to Iraq and Afghanistan? Not really. War is an industry and if America does not provide, then someone else will.

I actually prefer Biden foreign policy to Biden and Obama so far. At least Biden left Afghanistan even if it was ugly.

Being invaded sucks for Ukraine, but I fail to see how this really negatively impacts the rest of the world. Is Ukraine some sort of superpower we need on our side?

Well if Putin gets away with it then why in the world would he stop at Ukraine? Britian and France let Hitler take Austria to avoid a world war and then it happened anyways. Don't forget that Obama did diplomatically chase Russia out of Georgia.

Well Russia has a very poor gdp per capita so I'd think they could only take poorer countries than them.
