That's great news. Coming from Gitesh, it's 99% sure to release on that date.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
Good news. Now we need to wait for mainland China's release date because it may affect season 2's release schedule. If Europe and China green lit the screening in May, it is possible that season 2 can air during summer 2021. Currently, Summer 2021 has plenty of unoccupied time slots for anime.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
Great to see it doing well in SK. Perhaps it can get over $15 million.
Didn't look like it was going to get to $10 million for a bit after it opened, but legs are certainly delivering. Maybe it took a bit for audiences to catch up on the anime before going out to see the continuation in theaters.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
Let's go Demon Slayer!
China will undoubtably have the #1 film this year, so maybe that will weaken their resolve to keep The Eight Hundred at #1 for 2020 and just let Demon Slayer go roughouse on their box office?
Nah I'm kidding I know that will never happen. Dragon Ball Broly made $30M in America in the Before Times, so hopefully DS can get at least half of that in the covid era with a weaker opening but better legs. If Black Widow moves again this could even kind of a function as the summer kickoff movie.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
So apparently Demon Slayer TV series was released in Korea on Netflix and is doing well in trending list recently. That explain the increase it is getting.

How is the COVID response in your countries and would you be watching the movie in the cinemas on Apr 23 or would you rather wait for the DVD release?

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
It's rated R (17 and older) in North America. It got PG12 in Japan, and similar ratings elsewhere (some higher), but was just expecting a PG-13 in NA, not R. But this is good. Nothing will be edited, and most anime fans are older in North America, so I wouldn't expect this to hurt it. Might even have an opposite effect.
But this also show how different some markets are. McDonald's has Demon Slayer products in their Happy Meals right now in Japan. In North America, you need an adult to see it.

The COVID response here has been... unorganized and all over the place, with information being black and white and misinformation being widespread. Regarding a pandemic, you shouldn't get two very different replies when asking two different people about it, or experience two very different responses by driving into the next town or city over. For me, If it's within reasonable travel distance (live in a very rural area), I'll check it out in theaters. I was fully vaccinated at the end of January, so there's some "security" factor (and mindset) there. I still wear a mask (two in crowded places) of course and follow simple distancing and other basic guidelines. These basic things have helped prevent me, personally, from getting sick once in over a year now, so I'm going to continue them for the foreseeable future. But I feel better about going out and doing things again.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
Viz reported earlier this year that the series has either sold 1 or 2 million copies in the U.S. now. That's miniscule compared to the Japanese manga industry (which is now over 10x bigger than the American comic book industry) where a single volume can sell that in a couple days, but it's a notable amount for the U.S., especially when you consider that they only saw 15 million American comic books sold last year.
If Funimation can get it in enough theaters, it could very well surprise in the U.S. next month since the digital release is being held off until June to allow it 2 months exclusively in theaters.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
Between the push in Japan, its great holds in Asia and its promising release in the US, Latin America and Europe, this is definitely going to become the highest grossing movie from 2020 now, even without China.
