Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
I feel like it was almost purposefully kept from breaking the 4.05 million first-print record, as sort of a nod to Oda's contribution to the industry over the past two decades. As you noted, there's already a second-print run scheduled a week later, which tells me they could have given it the first-print record if they really wanted to since they did 3.95 million in the first week. And that's fine.
A 3.95 million first print-run might still result in some places selling out in their first few days (and almost certainly before the second-print reaches them), but that should be enough to break the first week sales record of 2,275,453 currently held by One Piece Vol. 66. The second to last Demon Slayer volume did sell 2,204,279 in its first three days from a first print-run of 3.7 million just last month, so the last volume will *probably* get the record with a 3.95 million first-print run (especially with the added epilogue).
Do you know if the 3.95 million first-print run is included in the 120 million circulation figure?

It does. As a general rule of thumb when circulation is given close to the release of a new volume just always assume it includes first print of the next one.

Pretty fair, I'd say. "Just" needs a 1% increase, and I'm confident that a sub-10/15% drop is very likely, and about 50/50 on it remaining flat or seeing a slight increase.

Here's a video I wanted to share with everyone. It doesn't really get into anything deep, just a general interview asking random people if they know about Demon Slayer, if they like Demon Slayer, and why they think it's popular. This was filmed shortly follow the second week of release for the film (last week of October).

@Corpse why the Christmas week and therefore the holidays started on Monday December 23 last year and this year it starts on Friday December 25 ? I admit that I didn't really understand that

According to Corpse, many schools started holidays early on Monday because Christmas Day fell on a Wednesday.
Quote:
Note: A lot of schools had their last day of the semester on Monday, and just let out early, so the day itself wasn't too impressive. Tuesday onward, especially Wednesday through Friday, will be stronger, particularly for younger skewing films.
In the years before that though, December 23 was a national holiday due to it being the (former) Emperor's birthday.

And thanks, JustLurking.
With the quite high drop of previous days, I think this coming weekend needs a flat to balance that.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
LPLC: It just depends on how the dates line up on the calendar. Chances are schools will be in session up until, I'm guessing, Wednesday (Dec. 23rd) since Christmas this year falls on a Friday. The last couple weekdays leading up to Christmas might see a very slight bump for the younger skewing films, as well as Christmas, but chances are there won't be too much impact on the box office until the following week: Dec. 28 onward.
Alo12345: Balance back to what though? A 24% drop on Tuesday was good coming off a holiday. A 38% drop on Wednesday is a little higher, but it's understandable given the giveaway announcement. Thursday will likely be down 30%+ today, and Friday likely will as well. A lot of people are waiting for the weekend giveaway. I've share how strong reservations are at a number of locations already, several days out.
It's 150% locked to beat Spirited Away no matter the drops from this point on, honestly. It can drop 30/40% this weekend and be perfectly fine. That's not happening, but it'd be fine if it did. It's not going to suddenly stop making money after New Year or anything either; it's going to be playing well into the Spring and likely early Summer, too, since Hollywood keeps hinting at going the streaming route for the foreseeable future.

@Corpse I have one last question about the holidays and then I leave you alone, since December 23 is a public holiday and the holidays start on December 25, December 24 will also be a public holiday ?

December 23 is not a national holiday this year because of the change in Emperors. The new date for that former holiday (Emperor's Birthday) is February 23.

For folks who have seen the movie or read the manga and would like to discuss the spoilers for this movie, I have created the review thread for this movie in Everyone's A Critic section.

Final : ¥35,616,933,450Bn ($338,9M) / 26,457,850 admissions
I know these predictions are probably inaccurate but I wanted to do them because the Demon Slayer run Japan fascinates me and we will never see it in Japan again

I think the run in itself isn't greatest-of-all-time but the numbers DS is posting each week during this run are something that has never happened in Japan.

The 14th week I think the drop will be better because Corpse said in this coming new year holiday, that week can be considered as half holiday week.

No the « half holidays » finish at 11 january, so between 12 January and 17 January, I think there will be a big drop like that but it’s normal after period of holidays

I believe what Alo12345 is saying is that there are supposedly three weeks of holidays this year in Japan to avoid travel congestion which is why the drop in Week 14 will be better.

Yes I know but he Alo12345 speak aout the week 14 (01/11-17) but the period of three weeks holidays finish the 11/01, so after this period until 17/01, I expect a big drop since Hollidays will be over.

Isn't the 1st day of the month usually boosted due to ticket discount?
