Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Thanks for this Corpse!

I was thinking since the first 4 or 5 episodes of Season 1 of Demon Slayer premiered in Japan as a movie, that maybe they will also do this to Season 2 just to prolong it. I'll put in a spoiler the tag the upcoming arcs
Spoiler: show
The Red Light District, The Swordsmith Village, Training, Infinity Castle and Countdown to Sunrise
I might have missed an arc since I just got this from memory. I am just subscribed to the Shounen Jump monthly so I'll check this later

Can't wait for more Demon Slayer in the future and the records it's gonna slay.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
I have so much manga now, 317 volumes, that it just feels incomplete not to continue the collection by buying individual volumes of the series' I've begun and are still ongoing, or for a new series I'm also enjoying.

A digital subscription service like what's available today would have been amazing 10-15 years ago. But I still like collecting books in general, especially if I find a first edition somewhere.

Last year, I was on a "dead mall" trip exploring shopping malls along parts of the North East of the U.S., and I stopped at one in PA that had a Goodwill (thrift store) set up shop where a Sears or other company that's went bankrupt or has closed nearly all their locations. Said Goodwill had the first 49 volumes of Naruto for .25c (25 cents) each, and ALL were first edition released back in mid-2000s and in great condition. Bought them of course ($12!). I enjoy Naruto enough, but it's not one of my favorites and I definitely wouldn't have bought them at full (or even sale) price. So this was an incredible find.

I'll post my Monday estimate in a few, just doubling checking whether or not it's the second biggest Monday ever, behind its own first Monday.

Monday (10/26) Estimate: ¥580 million ($5.5 million) / 435,000 admissions. Down 20% versus last Monday.

This is NOT the second biggest Monday ever (behind its first Monday last week); that second place title goes to Toy Story 4's first Monday, a national holiday (Ocean Day). Toy Story 4 opened over a holiday weekend and had a huge first four days in release, but kind of petered out soon afterwards from a lukewarm reception and heavy summer competition last year.

But it is the third biggest Monday ever, and it is the second biggest non-holiday Monday ever (after itself).

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
I'm about to post the Top 100 Grossing Films list with Demon Slayer now added to it.

And in addition to its current placement on the list, as of Monday, I'm going to provide a long-range forecast of sorts through next Tuesday (November 3rd). This forecast is NOT a prediction (especially the USD figures, as exchange rates change day to day, although they've been consistent for awhile now). I'm simply using the data using a rough ~20/25% weekly decline (since Monday hit 20%) versus last week to projecting ahead though to Sunday.

And through Tuesday, November 3rd, I added a rough Monday number, and then took about 75% of what I think it may earn on Sunday for the Tuesday gross. It depends on the film, time of years, etc., but a holiday Monday/Tuesday is usually around 3/4ths or so of the prior Sunday or Saturday gross.

I'm not going to project or predict any further than a week ahead since small % changes really throws off the trajectory when using numbers this big. And again, This forecast is NOT a prediction. The forecast will be highlighted in LIGHTGREEN.

Isn't that friday projection too low? Considering you're projecting 380mln on thursday, but then only 170mln in friday.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Dunno why but I kinda get triggered when I always saw a post regarding Demon Slayer's achievement in Japan (whether it's about its manga copies sold there or about DS:MT's current box office records) and people on the comment section always say how generic or overrated it is. :/ :/

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Anything that reaches this level of success, even half this level of success (even a quarter of this level of success), is always a target of those wanting to hate on it for, basically, not being the best thing of all time, forever in their eyes. This applies to every measurable subject. Ignore them.

The general consensus is clearly that this series is good, and the movie's reception has been very high among audiences. And even that common consensus doesn't matter if you personally enjoy something.

(And some hate is probably from whiny anime fans who are upset their favorites never achieved this success.)

Yeah I'm gonna ignore them if I can since I love seeing other people's opinion regarding it, but its always the same old same old hate comments :/ :/, at this point I kinda think that only Japan (and the people on this board and some of my friends at social media) likes or loves Demon Slayer (there's probably more people who like/love this series but the overwhelming negativity surrounding it because of its popularity still ticks me off).

Instead of reading the comment sections somewhere (when aren't comment sections of anything really not full of hate, LOL), I'd suggest watching their reactions instead. YouTube, for example, has a lot of different reaction channels. I personally follow Blind Wave (Mark Hamill endorsed!) and The Normies; both are great channels that have watched and reacted to Demon Slayer.

Well I kinda rather read their opinions than watch them react to it (kinda contradictory to me as I love watching movie reviews lol) but thanks for the suggestion! Also might check out later the channels that you suggested.

Well at least there's still people who don't just spout hate to Demon Slayer (but are kinda rare to find in my case LOL).

>Demon Slayer: Mugen Train reigns atop the weekend box-office again. Surprise! Like last weekend, we've been discussing this film in depth and analyzing it enough that there's not much else to say in this post.

>Your Eyes Tell, although a galaxy-sized distance away in second place, had a solid debut for Gaga. It sold 98,000 admissions over the weekend frame across 346 screens; and sold 132,311 admissions in its first three-days in release. It's a stretch to be sure, but it has a slim shot at reaching the ¥1 billion (~$10 million) milestone.

>Tenet continues to hold well, and is going to reach the ¥2.5 billion mark next week. Just in case no one has read this, Tenet is the second highest grossing Nolan film in Japan, only behind Inception. Great performance.

>The Asadas! will exceed the ¥1 billion (~$10 million) milestone before next weekend. This one didn't quite live up to expectations I feel, but it'll still become a fair success.

>Violet Evergarden: The Movie also continues to hold very well, and has doubled the gross of last year's Violet Evergarden film. Quite a tremendous accomplishment there alone, and I wouldn't rule out a final number reaching the ¥2 billion (~$20 million) mark given the late-legs it's having.

The Weekend Top 10 is up what must be a record 226% versus the same weekend last year.

Very likely to stay above $20 million this upcoming weekend, so that's three. A fourth weekend above $20 million is doable, but it's too early to say right now, so consider it a 50/50 chance until we're into next week.

Of course. Most big films don't lose theaters until at least 4-6 months into the release, and this film is the biggest of the big so I'd expect it to reach early-Spring without losing any. And Hollywood has largely (almost entirely) abandoned the rest of the year, which will help it and all the other domestic films, too.

New Year is also expected to be extended one extra week (until January 12th) to help avoid congested travel after the holidays.

That long-term trajectory would line up nicely with my $150M 17 day and ¥20B 25 day goals from yesterday. Of course even if it’s a bit short on both, simply bonkers nutso level grosses.

The fastest to ¥25B chart will be hilarious.
