Re: Democratic Primary 2020
I hope everyone gangs up on Steyer at some point.
I saw that he has spent $135 million on ads which is the only reason he qualified (on the last day...), which is more than 11x anyone else on stage. I think that sum is around $100 million more than every one else combined.
Only Bloomberg has spent more. At least he won't be on stage.

I honestly don't get why Steyer/Bloomberg are still running. They've spent hundreds of millions of dollars and are barely polling. Like... aren't they supposed to be smart?

Imagine how all that money that Bloomberg and Steyer are spending would go to help us win back the Senate.

So Hillary still doesn’t realize that when she runs in 2024 she’s going to need the Berniebros instead of them hating her even more

She's never running again.
Not even sure why anyone interviewed her. Who... cares?

this shit is playing out like most award seasons. it feels like there's a lot of options and things can happen but one film that few actually think is the best film will in it i.e. Joe Biden is sweeping this shit. I'm sure she cares when she sees #clintonbodycount trending...everyone knows Epstein was murdered. A lot of people think she had something to do with it. That would involve prison time for her. I'm sure she cares about that perception....

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
LOL there were a lot more powerful people than the Clinton's that were friends with Epstein.

Well if after the 2016 election and 12 hours straight of crying and blaming Comey and everyone else but herself for losing, she did the math about if she could 1960/1968 Richard Nixon this, sitting out 2020 was always the obvious move.

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
Indeed. Things could still swing out of favor for him, but he seems to have successfully wrestled the progressive support away from Warren. Klobuchar rising is probably hurting both Warren and Biden as well (female and moderate support), which just helps Sanders.
Perhaps this will be the transition of sorts for the Democratic Party, away from the now fleeting establishment. We saw it begin in 2016, make considerable gains in 2018, so 2020 could be the turning point.
The establishment isn't fond of Sanders, but they won't have much of a choice but to support him if he goes on to win the nomination. If they were up against literally anyone other than Trump, I'm sure they'd balk and reluctantly support Bernie. But since another four years of Trump is on the line, they'll be forced to throw their full support behind Bernie.

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
Will Sanders (and the others) learn from the past years that winning will be all about unifying potential voters against Trump?

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
The first primary/caucus will be next Monday (a work day in Iowa I believe?).
Feb 3 Iowa (caucus)
Feb 11 New Hampshire
Feb 22 Nevada (caucus)
Feb 29 South Carolina
March 3 (Super Tuesday) Alabama American Samoa (caucus) Arkansas California Colorado Democrats Abroad Maine Massachusetts Minnesota North Carolina Oklahoma Tennessee Texas Utah Vermont Virginia
I am wondering why early states like Iowa and Nevada don't do away with caucuses. If they want more voters to participate and commit to a party early, they should switch to primaries. Primary is a statewide mobilization drive, makes an effective promotional tool.

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
Have a very hard time seeing it. Biden is poised to win states 3 & 4 and have a huge Super Tuesday. Bernie pretty much has to win both the first 2 states to be in play. Most of PB and AK support will go to Biden while Bernie will get what is left from Liz.
Bernie may get screwed by Warren remaining relevant too long into the process. Poor showings in the first states should be the end for AK and PB which will help Biden significantly.
All I will say is Bernie better handle losing better this time than he did last time if it seems inevitable he will not win.

If Warren loses the first two states to Bernie she has no chance so why not quit? Plus looks like the Democrat spot will be open in 2024 no matter what, so if she plans to run again maybe she could gain some good will with the Bernie Bros Buttigieg and Klobuchar have motivation to stay in after they have no chance of winning to increase name recognition for next time (I guess you could say the same for Warren, but she’s already pretty well known)

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
The ultimate goal of the eventual Democratic nominee: to get a broad spectrum of voter support to defeat Trump. Please remember this. Everything else is a sideshow.
Bernie and his surrogates are not doing a great job at that, giving me little confidence in Bernie's ability to unite voters. Hillary Clinton's open criticism is not helping either.
Also, do not treat Trump as a good-faith or fair player.

It’s expected that Biden will pick up steam after Iowa and NH and dominate southern states, so I see little opportunity for Warren to get a foothold if she doesn’t have a good start there, and especially if Bernie wins both and makes it seem like he’s the guy for the progressives to back.

It's Bernie's job to rally around all progressives and convince Warren supporters to back him. Not the other way around. I said the same thing about the Hillary camp in 2016. Also, no one can see the future. Let's see how the first few primaries play out.

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
The infighting that's already begun in the Democratic Party is frustrating. Democrats are frustrating. It should be the most simplistic idea--supporting all the candidates and then uniting behind the winner to defeat Trump (and ideally win back the Senate)--for everyone in the party to get behind, yet there's hostility before the first votes are even cast...

It's mostly coming from the Bernie people again. Not Bernie himself...
