Re: DGA Awards 2020
Oh what. Has Taika even been nominated for Director anywhere else?
I bet Gerwig will get the last slot. But then again maybe Oscar voters really dgaf or Joker gets strong support like BAFTAs.

It kinda warms my heart that two of Shia's films got nominated.

Also, I’ll never understand wtf people saw in JoJo. It’s worse than Green Book. Oscar voting ended today, genius.

Re: DGA Awards 2020
JoJo winning Best Picture would be a complete joke but also in line with a decade of mostly lesser films winning BP.

I've been saying Jojo Rabbit is getting in. The Academy can't help themselves with a good Holocaust movie.

Yeah. The Top Five looking like Hollywood, 1917, Irishman, JoJo and Parasite with Joker and Marriage Story on the outside looking in

Re: DGA Awards 2020
Mendes wins. Huh. Was expecting Bong to win. 1917 is probably gonna win it all.

It’s over. It’s not like the BAFTAs will go against a British WWI frontrunner.

Re: DGA Awards 2020
A decade of Best Picture winners
2010: The King’s Speech 2011: The Artist 2012: Argo 2013: 12 Years A Slave 2014: Birdman 2015: Spotlight 2016: Moonlight 2017: The Shape of Water 2018: Green Book 2019: 1917
Some takeaways
- Not a lot of really big hits/super audience friendly like Gladiator, LOTR and The Departed last decade. 1917 will probably be the highest grossing. Also relatively light on superstar actors, there’s no DiCaprio, Damon, Pitt, Hanks, etc. type vehicle in here, the closest I guess is Affleck.
- Relatively weak list of directors compared to some highlights like Scorsese and Coens wins last decade. Fincher, PTA, Nolan, Tarantino all passed up
- 8/10 are period pieces (Birdman and Moonlight aren’t)

Re: DGA Awards 2020
One reminder is the DGA does not use ranked choice voting. A 1917 win does not mean it will be the favorite in Oscars' Best Picture by the members of the DGA.

Re: DGA Awards 2020
Well that's a wrap folks. As usual, the last movie people watch ends up being the one that sticks with them. Dunkirk definitely would have won if it was released in December.

Re: DGA Awards 2020
I'm pretty sure La La Land won PGA and DGA and Best Picture before they took it away to be less racist. Can't think of another one. Not sure how that would work with 1917 though. The #OscarsHateAsians movement never really took off.

Re: DGA Awards 2020
Let's start a #OscarsKissestheBrits movement. I want to see non spectacle-driven Parasite or Marriage Story pull an upset.

That's a weak ass list. Yeah, mostly garbage aside from Moonlight (haven't seen Spotlight yet).
