That’s the plan already for 2020-2022

Forever. No more theatrical films. Let the past die.

Of course not. We will get a new film by holiday 2022, maybe earlier if Avatar 2 gets pushed back again (it probably will.) Episode X will be out by 2030.

Fuck no.

A film about peak Rey running a new Jedi order across the galaxy w/ Poe and Finn leading command (also featuring Maz Kanata and co. w/ occasional Luke cameo) when a new threat arises forcing them to resurrect Ben Solo so he & Rey can form the dream team we always wanted would make a fortune.

It'll come out sometime around 2025 or so.

NO MORE FILMS UNTIL THEN. Though.

I’m excited for the day a Star Wars episode tanks. That’s what we’re heading toward lol if they don’t quit while ahead.

If they keep chucking out TV series in the foreseeable future there won't be any novelty for theatrical series. According to me they should do more theatrical movies with different stories. Start a new SW universe saga and connect it to current one (only in cameos), do something new with this franchise and grow it back to its potential rather than assuming it will be huge right off the gate.

I'd be fine with it, but it probably won't happen only because they want to make a ton of money off the movies and depending solely on D+ isn't likely enough to cover the cost of how much of an investment they are putting into the films.

Lol wtf

I think a break will be good. I think being experimental for the next couple of films could be cool. Maybe go for an auteur director and just let them do their thing and since it's not related to any old characters it won't get so much backlash. But after what happened with Solo I doubt that'll happen.

If (more like when, it'll happen ) they ever do an Episode 10 with Rey in the future they should do it in 10 years like the break between Sith and TFA and really just make something exciting. We'll see.

Disney+ shows will be cool but if they're at the level of Mandalorian they'll mostly be forgettable. If there was no Baby Yoda Mandalorian would be forgotten by next month.

Except for the unlikely situation of Lucas or Spielberg doing it in which case you have to go ASAP, I would say at least 10 year gap like Sith to Force Awakens

I mean the films are guaranteed to end eventually. They can let it go with a whimper or a bang, and it seems they’re choosing the former.

Stuff like Obi Wan and Solo probably should just go straight to D+. But if a big time director wants to do a story, give them a film or two theatrically. Since they're not going to be a part of the Skywalker saga, who knows how any of the next films will do, so they're going to have to make sure they're great films.

The Skywalker Saga ended. There's more stories to tell theatrically. Other characters. Other times. Star Wars is NOT just the Skywalkers.

Yeah, general audience will stop caring eventually.

Not if they're good movies. Audiences have enjoyed sci-fi films for decades.

There’s only so much you can do with Star Wars. It’s not Marvel. There’s a reason they’re taking a break. It will come back, smaller than TFA. And then those films will decline until they have to go on a break. Each time Star Wars comes back it will get smaller.

What are the limits to... Star Wars? The have a whole universe of creatures and characters. Baby Yoda is probably the most popular character in the history of mankind.

Marvel is limited to the characters in the comics. They're not introducing new heroes to the world. Star Wars can. Just have glancing references to a Federation or a Jedi order, or someone using the force. Bada bing.

Marvel supports 3 films a year. Star Wars tries 2 and one ranks to a ridiculous degree. It’s clear that Star Wars event status will continue to fade as they oversaturate the brand. They should just let it die and come up with something new instead of continuing to milk it

Star Wars has been a long standing franchise whereas we are just about to see if Marvel is just in a phase or it can stand for a long time. By just the number of movies alone ofcourse MCU wins but Star Wars brings in a legacy that's probably unmatched by any franchise in the domestic market and I don't think it will diminish as parents introduce SW early on to their children with costumes and pop culture references.

Superhero movies a lot easier to make than space westerns/space samurai movies or whatever you call Star Wars at this point. If you remove the Star Wars brand and tried to make a space action adventure for every Guardians of the Galaxy you're gonna have like 4 John Carter type movies. That's the biggest reason Solo flopped as it was basically another John Carter/Pan/The Lone Ranger light adventure flop (complete with pretty but bland lead actor casting), except it had Star Wars attached so it didn't do quite as bad as those

The films ended with a bang....in 2005. Then Lucas decided he wanted $4 billion, and Disney/Kathleen "Krusty the Krab" Kennedy were extremely arrogant and thought fans would swallow any old recycled shit.

I mean maybe for the small amount of diehards who read those cheesy novels about the expanded universe, but for 95% of the general public Star Wars is "1977-1983 and then there were those prequels that were kinda crappy but Revenge of the Sith was decent", and that is absolutely the Skywalker saga.

You all seem to forget the Disney math equation of "Money = Money". DC should have waited at least a decade to cast a new Joker after Heath Ledger, but cast not one but two of them within the decade after Heath's death. Disney won't wait that long to break out a new Star Wars in theatres.

But create new characters and stay away from old ones (at least not the human characters). The Star Wars universe is massive. And get people involved that know how to create engaging sci-fi stories. And don't have a dozen people involved in the creative process, not including executives meddling in the final product. That last part will never happen, because money = money.

But Disney+ is definitely the way to go for good storytelling. Less pressure of box office and more chances to tell interesting stories.

And for god's sake, call it Disney+. D+ sounds like a gay porn streaming service.

Predictions:

2022: Animated Star Wars, probably set between Jedi and Force, will lead into a new tv series
2023: Rian Johnson set far in the past
2025: Lando: A Star Wars Story starring Donald Glover
2026: Gritty, R-rated Star Wars. Hopefully not directed by Todd Phillips unless they fire him hallway through.
2027: Rian Johnson 2
2028: Chewy: A Star Wars Story
2028: Gritty R-Rated Star Wars 2
2030: Star Wars Episode X: The New Order with Rey and Lil Baby Yoda

There is no way this happens after the way Solo bombed. Maybe (big maybe) on Disney+ as a mini-series, partly because I doubt Donald Glover, who has a very inflated ego and thinks he's an A-list superstar (he's not), would sign on for another long-term series.

Also zero chance at an R-rated Star Wars. A huge part of the audience are families, it's supposed to be entertainment for all ages. It would be awesome, but this the franchise is owned by Disney now, not Fox or Warner Bros...

Also zero chance at Chewbacca A Star Wars Story. In fact I don't think we'll ever see another Star Wars Story film.

... Donald Glover had a cameo in MIB, Spider-Man, and has a TV show on FX... Not sure he has as big of an ego as you think.
