Re: The Trump Era: The Awkward Mix of Libertarianism and Fas
What exactly is the point of the impeachment? The desperate hope 20 Republicans in the Senate switch sides? It’s a waste of time that just makes him a martyr and overshadows all the other reasons to vote against Trump
I guess the next time the House and Senate are both owned by the opposite party of the president (doesn’t happen often, Bush had a 49-49 senate his last few years, and Ford apparently was the last one before that) they’re probably getting impeached and removed. I mean if the opposing party can just kick out the president any time they want and replace him with his drip vice, sure sounds like a great strategy to win the next election. All you need is to find a reason, and both sides are so hellbent on trying to cheat democracy to win the election that surely they wouldn’t care if it’s a good one. And if Trump happens to win and loses the House and Senate, he is obviously getting removed, although Democrats would have to sit through about 3.5 years of Pence after that. In the mean time when only the House is controlled by the opposing party they can just impeach every president making it a meaningless political move

I think voters understand that partisanship makes conviction unlikely but they heard the case against Trump and will keep it in mind when voting.

I read an interesting theory that if the Democrats know RBG isn’t making it to November, they can play the card that Trump can’t appoint anyone because he’s impeached

Would love to know what Democrats are doing to "cheat democracy"

I guess the next time the House and Senate are both owned by the opposite party of the president they’re probably getting impeached and removed. But this isn't something that just happened. His entire presidency has been clouded by accusations of taking help from foreign governments in the 2016 elections. And then, on tape, in front of many witnesses, he asks a foreign government to do something that might influence the upcoming 2020 election and withholds money from said country when he doesn't get it. The Mueller Report was too inconclusive to impeach but only a short time late Trump gave them even more ammunition against him. He did this to himself because that's who he is and if you're saying it wasn't worthy of impeachment then what is? Does he really have to shoot someone dead on 5th avenue to break the bubble of his base or would that be excused as well?
