pretty decent for Fire if true. expected for christmas. bad for sleep. no way that midway number holds up. if it makes $19 mil OW I will eat my hat.

Re: Friday estimates (Nov 8, 2019)
Midway overperformed low expectations but that was still low for a big-budget war spectacle.
Doctor Sleep did not create a lot of excitement at the box office on opening day. Did it have to do with the movie being more psychological horror than typical scare fest like The Curse of La Llorona or Pet Semetary?
That weekend estimate was very good for Last Christmas given its low previews number.
Playing with Fire did worse than Instant Family last year but that was still a fine number.

Fantastic for Midway. Yes it will stil lose money but that's still a decent number.
Ok for Christmas as it should have decent legs.
Good for Fire.
Terrible for Sleep considering it's in the booming horror genre.

Re: Friday estimates (Nov 8, 2019)
Same - I thought it would go low after the Euro openings and lack of buzz but still thought it could eek out a high 20's gross.

At least the budget isn't huge so its not a bomb... disappointing though.

Re: Friday estimates (Nov 8, 2019)
Someone told me Doctor Sleep is actually now looking at under 4 for Friday? How is that possible? The original estimate would be bad enough.

The newest estimate is $4.75M. My goodness, this is now a flop for the ages.

Jesus Christ. Poor Ewan. Could do sub-125m WW if it does poorly everywhere.
I thought Midway would flop that a high teens opening looks good... if it does well overseas could be a solid performer.

Have we had a #1 in November be sub-20m recently?

Re: Friday estimates (Nov 8, 2019)
Official numbers:
Midway - $6.3M Sleep - $5.5M Christmas - $4M Fire - $3.5M
Terminator - $2.8M (-73%)
Trash? Atleast Last Christmas will have some good legs and get to $50-60M.

Re: Friday estimates (Nov 8, 2019)
Mess at Doctor Sleep. The only way a Shining sequel would've done big business is if Jack Nicholson had been back somehow.
Ewan better get Disney to greenlight an Obi Wan spin off. They might as well now that the planned new Star Wars trilogy fell through.

Re: Friday estimates (Nov 8, 2019)
Hate to say it but they probably should have had "The Shining" in the title and released it 2 weeks earlier.

Re: Friday estimates (Nov 8, 2019)
Without previews Doctor Sleep barely did better than Last Christmas, with IMAX. Looking back it does make sense that its not doing too well but I didn't think it would straight up do less than 6m Friday with previews. Yeesh. My coworker has a Jack from The Shining funko pop on his desk and I told him I saw Doctor Sleep early and he had no idea it was a continuation of The Shining. 10m+ for Playing With Fire seems ok if it wasn't made for much.

Re: Friday estimates (Nov 8, 2019)
Yep piss poor effort from WB in alerting the mass audience that this is a sequel to The Shining (which I don't think resonates with today's audience as much as some think but that's another story).
And with the horror genre - very few films outright flop these days so this makes the performance even worse.
