There are so many cases of actors that have come back after a few years of winning and Oscars have embraced them. I just feel they are being unjust towards Hanks because they hold him in such high regards of acting. He is the most natural actor out there than can make complex characters look easy (in terms of acting).

Hanks is really quite good in Beautiful Day. Would be ok with him winning but Pitt winning would be cool too.

He doesn't campaign whatsoever apparently. He would've been nominated easily for movies like Captain Phillips or Bridge of Spies if he went through the normal ass kissing others do.

This is also a weakness for Joe Pesci who probably has no interest in getting nominated or going to the Oscars
