FBI renewed for full season. No shocker. Expect FBI spinoffs in the next two years.

Re: The Renewal and Cancellation thread 2018-2019
Absolutely ridiculous that Luke Cage was cancelled. Iron First I understand though I'll miss some of the characters but Luke Cage should have received another season, especially seeing that Jessica Jones is getting a third season after the woeful 2nd.

Re: The Renewal and Cancellation thread 2018-2019
It makes sense though. Disney has chosen to be a competitor to Netflix and their partnership is nearly at an end. Daredevil and Jessica Jones were popular enough to get third seasons, but I doubt it goes beyond that. Are their any other shows on the schedule? I’m most concerned about The Runaways.

Re: The Renewal and Cancellation thread 2018-2019
Disappointed that Syfy cancelled its horror anthology Channel Zero. It ran like American Horror Story, a new story each season, but it didn't have the obnoxious flash and flair of AHS. It was subtle, dark, and genuinely creepy. Unfortunately it was good when it could have been great most times. The last season, The Dream Door, was the best and was when the series reached its fullest potential. I wish we had more horror anthology series like this. I like AHS for what it is, but it's not a true horror series.

I was bummed it was cancelled too. I do love horror anthology series. I am really enjoying Hulu's Into The Dark which has a new installment every month centered around a holiday. I really hope that sticks around. There's only been one episode I've disliked so far.
They should reboot Masters of Horror.

Re: The Renewal and Cancellation thread 2018-2019
Yeah I really enjoyed Channel Zero overall, especially Seasons 2 and 4. I do like American Horror Story, but it can be so hit and miss for me and it's definitely not a real horror show.

Re: The Renewal and Cancellation thread 2018-2019
I won't knock American Horror Story for what it does, but it's the lightest horror possible for a more broad audience. It's horror for people that are scared of horror films, in the same way as The Walking Dead is a zombie show for people who have never seen or never enjoyed a zombie flick.
I just wish there was something else like Channel Zero that was genuine horror.

Re: The Renewal and Cancellation thread 2018-2019
AHS is too much of a comedy and is too campy to be real horror. Though the first season was the most serious and perhaps creepiest (Season 2 seems the same but haven't seen it).

Re: The Renewal and Cancellation thread 2018-2019
Renewals have been handed out to The Neighborhood, FBI, Magnum P.I., The Good Doctor, A Million Little Things... probably more I'm forgetting from the last few weeks.
And we will see an 11th and final season of Modern Family. The show has clearly sucked for a long time, and I know some were off the Modern Family train for a lot longer, but I think the show really hit a terrible stride with Season 8. They really didn't try to have any of the kids act differently as they age. There's something depressing about seeing Luke and Manny still play up the same tired shtick they had since the start, but now they're college age.
The one positive that has actually kept me with the show is Haley's storyline this season. They actually put some care into the character, and the freshness of that will keep me going right until the end. I'd argue hard for a Frasier-style spinoff for Haley, but if we don't get it, I'm content knowing they've actually done a good job evolving the character while keeping her ditzy tendencies intact. If only they could stop writing Luke, Manny and even Alex as if they were still kids.

Re: The Renewal and Cancellation thread 2018-2019
713 episodes by the end of this renewal. Part of me wants to see it last the 10+ years beyond that to get 1000 episodes. It'll never end with dignity, why not just go for gusto?
Has there ever been even a hint of a spinoff? It's strange they've never even considered it after all these years. I don't think any supporting character is worthy of their own show, and perhaps they know that, but it's not like anyone involved is thinking of quality.

One Day at a Time (Netflix) has been cancelled.
People are #madonline... but like. Shut up. Watch the shows you like and they won't get cancelled. It's that simple. Networks don't cancel popular shows unless the actors want out.

Re: The Renewal and Cancellation thread 2018-2019
Netflix has every right to cancel their shows with bad ratings. But I would think there's more value in One Day At A Time than just the numbers - critically acclaimed shows has positive impact on their brand, and they don't have too many shows opening them to hispanic family demo. Chasing after the minor victories of barely passable ratings instead of bad ratings and not looking at the bigger picture of their brand becoming the lowest quality tv is how network TV fell to where they are today

Especially considering they were adopting the early Amazon strategy of "lose money to attract more clients". But people throw these fits every time a "good" show gets cancelled. See: Brooklyn 99.

Well, apparently every season got more and more viewers. It's not true that Netflix doesn't cancel popular shows unless the actors want out. They're all mostly done after Season 3 and it sounds like they will continue that model for the most part because they say it's not worth it for them to continue past that. That didn't happen in the beginning with House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black because those came along first and helped put them on the map and were insanely popular. Now they have way too much original content they're putting out and spending money on. What they need to do is make it easier for TV networks to pick up the shows they decide not to continue. Sucks it's basically impossible to do.
