Bumblebee - was the December release date a good idea?
Bumblebee is looking to finish around Last Knight's domestic haul while WW it will probably finish in the 400's.
Budget was $100m so it's not a bad result but should Paramount have released this in the summer? Or would it have done the same #s? Idk what they were thinking keeping it against Aquaman. With the really positive reviews I think this could've maybe done better.

Well opening the same day as Aquaman was not a good idea. But I don’t think it would make much more in January. Probably a $40M/$120M run, helped by the surprising quality.

I think the anticipation was never really there, no matter when it would have opened, Transformers fatigue had simply already set in. It was also always seen as a smaller scale spin-off, and while it could have opened bigger on another weekend, its legs would have been nowhere near as good and ended up with a very similar total anyway.

I have no idea tbh. On one hand opening against Aquaman obviously hurt it, but was that impact totally cancelled out by Christmas season? The franchise was in freefall mode so ending up with a similar total to The Last Knight isn't that bad.
I think coming out so soon after the last Transformers movie hurt it more than anything else. And that was a product of Paramount desperately needing tentpoles.

Yeah it was.
Transformers fatigue is real and it has come too soon after the Wahlberg disaster.
I think its quality saved it from an even worse fate, because for example, even with good reviews, I just didn't care to see it.
Maybe releasing it this December might have given it enough distance, but as it stands, this was the best it could do given the circumstances.

I think 12/7 release date would've helped, a week to itself with the bigger/more screens before Spiderman, and then still playing on one at least screen during Christmas.
