Idk what they were thinking making this with a $130m budget, ut hatdly looks like it. If this had like a $80m budget or less the gross wouldn't look as bad.

This reminds me of Enchanted. Not to say either film disappointed, exactly, but the potential for a lot more seemed to get lost along the way.

It will hit 165m but it’s still not a flop. Just widely missed expectations. It won’t lose money.

It will need at least $350m WW not to lose money. I'm not sure that's happening...

I never believed in the massive grosses touted on here just because "Disney" and "nostalgia". I feel like I would've had a prediction of some sort, but who knows.

The trailer piqued my own nostalgia, but the end product was rather woeful. Songs were bland, Lin Manuel Miranda was fucking annoying and should have been cut and Mary Poppins just doesn't justify her own existence, really.

Of course, since it didn't even open well, I'd say that this was basically relying on nostalgia to get people to watch it and I guess there wasn't enough of it. I think Shack covered a lot of plausible reasons already.

I consider it more of a disappointment than a flop. Robin Hood, Mortal Engines, and the Nutcracker movie are the big flops of last year.

I think the main issue is that it doesn’t strive for a higher bar than the first. It’s a perfectly enjoyable film, but it’s not an Oscar worthy film like the first. In order to entice more than just people who were looking for an alternative to an action movie over the holidays, it needed to push the envelope more.

Also... the songs were forgettable. One of the reasons it won't gross more than Greatest Showman, who's soundtrack is still going to this date.

Don't forget A Wrinkle in Time!

Yeah that one too. Disney had two bigger disappointments this year.

It's not a flop or anything but it definitely didn't deserve all of the media attention it received. The media anointing it "THE ONE" of the Holiday season is utterly embarrassing now. Its international prospects were always shaky at best.

It’s probably going to pass 350m WW with 15m more domestic and some of Asia still left to open in, including Japan where I think the animated sequences will especially be a hit.

Definitely not a flop. It will make 100m over twice it’s budget.

Idk you could argue it’s worth the risk. Budgets do seem to contribute to blockbuster franchise grosses. Obviously with more potential the sliding scale of risk is different. I think they may simply have have underestimated how dated the brand is.

It’s really weird that this sold as a many tickets as The Greatest Showman but doesn’t have half the pop culture impact. It’s still an enjoyable movie but really seems pretty much forgotten already.

Greatest Showman had several memorable songs. Poppins didn't have one.
