Re: The Trump Era: The Awkward Mix of Libertarianism and Fas
I think one of the biggest upsets was in Oklahoma of all places. Steve Russell got upset by Horn who ill say actually seems reasonable to me and isn’t one of them crazy democrats quoting McCaskill.
The Senate has held that’s fine. Just bring me Ginsburg or Breyer heck replace THOMAS with someone younger . Let’s do this .

Re: The Trump Era: The Awkward Mix of Libertarianism and Fas
I feel pretty good about last night. Some of the results were a bit disheartening (mostly Florida, and the voter suppression issues in Georgia are appalling), but the Senate changing power was never happening. Democrats having the House back is a much needed check on Trump. And I feel VERY good about how Virginia turned out in general, between Tim Kaine crushing Corey Stewart, and Jennifer Wexton taking out Barbara Comstock and Abigail Spanberger doing the same to Dave Brat.
I would really like if the new Democratic-led House could work with Trump and co. on issues like infrastructure.

Why must it always be Florida... it's the most frustrating of states every single election. 1.) The polls always underestimate Republican turnout. 2.) The early results are always encouraging for the Dems since Miami-Dade is slow as hell at counting and is suppose to "cement" the Dems victory when it does come in. 3.) But then when Miami-Dade finally starts reporting 3+ hours after polls are closed, it's never quite able to push the Dems over the edge... It's the same thing every election.

Oh, and Trump fires Sessions the day after the election... Couldn't he have waited a couple more days, or even a week?

Wait for what?
Whether he was fired then, 2 weeks, 2 months, 6 months would have made no difference so what are you seeking out of him waiting to fire someone he's been patiently waiting to fire since he recused himself over nothing.

The news was diluted by all the election politics. That's how they wanted it.
They have made AG and the Justice Department a political tool for the president.

Re: The Trump Era: The Awkward Mix of Libertarianism and Fas
Georgia secretary of state Brian Kemp presided over the governor election he himself was running in. He purged over tens of thousands of voter registrations for failing the "exact match" test before the election. When the tight race in the state of Georgia started getting national spotlight, he offered to resign as SoS two days after the election.
Re: The Trump Era: The Awkward Mix of Libertarianism and Fas
The results are generally good for Dems, especially considering they have neither a leader, a unifying platform, nor a megaphone on the national level.
They regain grounds in Midwestern states Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. They are competitive in traditionally red states Georgia, Kansas, and Texas.
Beto O'Rourke lost by only 1.6% in Texas! The results should be closely analyzed for future elections. Stacey Abrams is also close in Georgia. Lucy McBath won the Ossoff seat, ending the four-decade-long Republican control in GA-06. Laura Kelly won the governor race in Kansas. The lesson of the story is to recruit good proactive statewide candidates and make every district competitive.

Sinema is now ahead of McSalley in Arizona as well, by 8,859 votes (up from her lead of 2,106 a few hours ago), after being down by 17,000 or so after Tuesday. Here's hoping she flips that seat (Flake's) when this race settles. EDIT: Sinema netted 751 more literally a couple minutes ago, and is up by 9,610.
Nelson also now trails Scott by 15,597 as of an hour ago, after trailing by 35,000 or so yesterday. This race was already close enough to trigger an automatic recount, but the closer that gap closes before then, the better.
And Gillium may have conceded Florida too early. He's now within the 0.5% automatic recount margin, but making up the current 36,000 votes he needs is a lot more challenging than the battle Nelson faces.

It seems like a good possibility Sinema can pull it off in Arizona, and Florida is such a clusterf that Nelson could too if the recount changes things.
Even if recounts/runoffs happen, unfortunately I don't see Gillum or Abrams being able to make up their differences.

I would tend to agree with this. most of the vote left is in Sinemas home county. Florida, jesus I saw the ballot they used in broward county. what a mess. Georgia well thats suspect, if Abrams cannot force a run off she is done.

Sinema is up by 20,837 votes after this evening's update, a full percentage point now. Unless something abnormal happens, this race is looking good.
Nelson continues to close the gap on Scott, down 14,852 votes now (netting 745 since yesterday). But Florida is a mess, again.

A president can do propaganda so freely and shamelessly because there are a lot of uninformed and submissive people.

On Trump's "truths" about California wildfires:
Quote:
Through the national forests, national parks, Bureau of Land Management, and others, the federal government manages more than 40 percent of California’s total acreage, as of 2015. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, by comparison, manages a little more than 30 percent.
Quote:
The 2017 U.S. Forest Service Report, for example, noted that the federal government had “treated” only about a quarter of federal land that ought to be managed through forest thinning or controlled burns.
In California, the Forest Service performs some sort of fire risk reduction on between 200,000 and 300,000 acres of federal land each year. That amounts to between 1 and 1.5 percent of the 20 million acres of national forest in the state.
Quote:
The Trump administration’s own budget request for the current fiscal year and the coming one proposed slashing tens of millions of dollars from the Department of Interior and U.S. Forest Service budgets dedicated to the kind of tree clearing and other forest management work experts say is needed. And it’s just one example of how the federal government is still not prioritizing fire mitigation to the scale that is needed, according to forestry experts.

This is the problem we have with Trump supporters. We can cite facts left and right, and they won't care. They're like Bible fundamentalists or flat earth believers.
