Loved this, did the book justice and has an amazing message and story, and Amandla Stenberg and the rest of the cast are great. One of the year's best.

I agree it's one of the year's best so far. I was pleasantly surprised. Very powerful film. Amandla Stenberg is just fantastic. I went to it twice this week.

This movie is absolutely amazing. It's a shame that it's not more in the awards conversation. Amandla Stenberg is truly revelatory.

Re: The Hate U Give
It won't be in my top 10, but this was a pretty damn good movie. The trailers for it looked so bad to me, but surprisingly its really well done in terms of the performances and the direction and there are definitely a few really effective emotional moments. This and Blindspotting are probably some of the most overlooked movies of the year, although I'm one of those people as well because the trailers just didn't impress me in the first place.

Yeah I thought it looked bad too. I couldn't stand the trailer. Didn't help that it showed with everything at my theater. But the reviews convinced me to check it out. So much better than it looked.

“Houses at hogwarts got their own colors, their own hideouts and they always ride with each other. How is that not about gang life?” I’m only like halfway in but this movie was worth it just for that.

Re: The Hate U Give
The rest of the movie was also very good. I liked how they also kept Starr and her family in the spotlight, making sure their personal struggles were given equal weight to the greater issue. It made the movie much more real, and the end is so much more powerful seeing Starr as a dynamic character breaking out of her shell rather than just as a "victim."
