Halloween - $66,666,660 (Universal films usually end with a 0 a 5 in their dollar grosses)
The Hate You Give - $6,017,000 (reminds of Only the Brave, a critically-acclaimed film that sadly flopped).

It’s not topping 80m. Most I see if doing is 70m

Halloween looks to open in the low to mid 60s, which will be outstanding.

I think it could push $100M, but alot of people will hold off until next weekend. Should still take the record though.

Halloween shares minimal overlap with this weekend's openers but I think many pocketed their money so they could turn out for Michael. Will be a fun opening to watch.

Halloween is a test of just how high a mega event horror movie can open to. It broke out to ridiculous numbers last year, but it obviously tapped into the coming-of-age fantasy demo too.

I think the hype is being skewed. It's not doing all that better than The Nun.

I'll say 55.

Halloween showing up on MT with 5.1%. I knew it would show up early today.

It's currently third with 10.7%, ahead of First Man and Goosebumps. When did The Nun show up? I want to say Wednesday but I'm not positive.

Well I guess because it's a franchise movie it's more likely to show up early, but this early (still Monday in the US, right?) feels earlier than others.

My theater is way off the pulse of Halloween, only offering two previews (7pm/10pm), both well on their way to sold-out. Hopefully someone realizes they need to at least double up.

What are we thinking for previews? I'll go with $7m.

7-9 Million. Paranormal Activity 3 did a whopping 8 Million. But the recent The Nun did 5.4 Million. This will fly past both OW. I don't see it being as front-loaded as PA3 thanks to having more adult appeal. PA3 also didn't have showtimes until midnight which makes it all the more insane that it did 8 Million.

Halloween now first on MT. Let's see how fast it pulls away from ASIB.

Idk man. 70 million for Halloween sounds way too high but I wouldn't mind if it did.

I am bummed that I have to work tonight and can’t see Halloween. Seems like a perfect opening night movie.

I may not be the audience for the movie but Halloween looks dull AF. It’s trailer was insanely creepy, and the nun was haunting and attention grabbing. I don’t think Halloween’s audience I’ll be as wide, the buzz is probably due more to hardcore horror fans.

Granted it's been over a decade, but pretty remarkable Halloween could triple the highest opening in franchise history. No denying the zeitgeist for it.

There’s no precedent for resurrecting one of these old horror franchises to a 70m open. You may argue Prometheus, but that was also a summer movie with improved effects. Anyway, remember how frontloaded the last Friday movie was?

Actually releasing on Friday the 13th may have had something to do with that.

Horror is bigger now than it's been in decades, maybe ever. The successes are feeding into each other and now the "original slasher" is getting a critically well received sequel with the original scream queen. There's more going for this than Friday '09 by a wide margin.
