Re: Venom Predictions
That poster is pretty dope, but it's too bad the trailers aren't better.

Re: Venom Predictions
There are some cool posters for this recently, basically looks like from a graphic novel. And then there's this monstrosity:

Re: Venom Predictions

Yeah and that's why I don't buy those posters. It's never going to use those tentacles and tongue as they are meant to be.

Re: Venom Predictions
I’m fine with it. An R rating would have just meant some extra gore, its not an important part of the character like Deadpool.

Re: Venom Predictions
Well not from talk perspective but it matters how the character kills people. It's not going to be realistic enough and the movie will just try to manipulate people into thinking Venom was justified when he actually kills people out of habit.

Re: Venom Predictions
Let's not forget that Insidious and A Quiet Place were both PG-13. Fear and dread can be done well with the right filmmaker. In most cases, using more blood to communicate the severity of an attack is the lazy way.

Re: Venom Predictions
True but this is a superhero (or antihero) movie and looks nothing like those two movies you mentioned. This will be more watered down PG-13 movie from an intentional R movie to get more people in theaters. Nothing in the trailers communicate the sense of fear or dread

In the end I think pg-13 will help this film's gross.

I think it shows Sony does not have a lot of confidence in the movie.

Re: Venom Predictions
But at the same time, why limits its reach if it doesn't add to the films' appeal. Generally I prefer r-rated stuff, but im actually not sure how it's going to help venom, aside from what flava'd said, some more extreme gore. Marvel has shown you can make great pg-13 films based on a comic.

I'm just saying that PG-13 doesn't mean that the kills will not be realistic. You've not seen it yet. I think your claims that it is watered down are better left until you have something to base them on.

Re: Venom Predictions
Venom is definitely helped by the Pg13 rating. It will be the only PG13 action blockbuster in theaters until maybe Fantastic Beasts, but even that I feel skews more female. So really it will be the only big action blockbuster and have no competition until it’s already long out of theaters.

Re: Venom Predictions
I'm amazed that the Fantastic Beasts films are PG-13. I thought they would want to appeal to the younger PG crowd too.

NO my claims are just that "my claims" you cannot use that argument only when it suits you. Jesus!!!!!

Though you have to realize that First Man is releasing wide next weekend and its going to be an IMAX and most likely PLF favorite movie with a PG-13 rating so I won't say that Venom will be the only blockbuster. Also Halloween is going to do $30m+ so the buzz for that is high enough even at this point.

Re: Venom Predictions
This trailer really doesn't do anything for me. It will likely open around $65m but I'm not sensing palpable anticipatory buzz. The whole tentacle thing with a creepy voice is bizarre.

Re: Venom Predictions
The high tracking is kind of surprising to me, but now I'm even more curious about the reviews. The PG-13 rating is already killing some of the enthusiasm for it and if the reviews suck that could still have a significant impact on it, but more than likely it will have a nice OW with some questionable legs if WOM isn't good.

Re: Venom Predictions
What's the tracking number? If it's high 50's-low 60's then I don't think it's big anything above $90m is what I'd call surprising.

I was expecting more around $30-$40M this early out, but apparently it's in the $50-$70M range which is very wide, but it's something I guess. I'd consider anything in that vicinity big, but if this were to actually approach $90-$100M that would be fucking insanity, but I don't see it happening.

Re: Venom Predictions
I think they want the same young boys who watched Spider-Man Homecoming to come see this. Would not be possible with an R rating.

Looks like another poster coming from comic book but then again I've loved all its posters thus far.
