Seems it could get a Best Picture nomination.

Re: A Quiet Place
I wouldn't bet on it. It's missing SJW qualifiers.

Re: A Quiet Place
I think if it grosses north of 175m at the box office, it's guaranteed a nomination.

No. It’s not important enough and it’s not a phenomenon.

Jesus. Every well-reviewed film doesn't need a thread in this forum, guys.

Think it's getting a best picture nomination? Unless the story of the film develops some level of importance so over the next year, it's not getting a BP nom.

I blame this on Magnus. Ever since his BP whispering bullshit, everyone's giving it a try.

I'm not saying it will, I'm saying it could. I think it will be leggy, and it's a very well reviewed original film. It seems to me that if Get Out could get nominated, it wouldn't be far fetched for this to get a nomination. Infinity War isn't going to be nominated if the first two Avengers weren't.

That helped maybe but I think it was also just a great movie.

Re: A Quiet Place
It was nominated because it was both. It it was coming off oscarssowhite, Trump, etc. and it also happened to be good (my opinion) or great (in most people's opinion - though it is kind of funny that villains in Get Out might feel right at home in the Oscar audience). It was a perfect storm. A Quiet Place doesn't and won't have that. Now to be fair to AQP, I haven't seen it, but Blunt's character apparently becomes a badass and that could work in a post Weinstein environment, but films, and horror films especially have done that before and I don't think it'll create the same groundswell of support GO had.

Re: A Quiet Place
At most I could see an Original Screenplay nomination, and that's a long-shot.
Get Out only got in because of the hate whitey narrative the media and academia have been pushing. That film is basically racial resentment porn.

Re: A Quiet Place
A Quiet Place is smart play on a gimmick, from the marketing standpoint. Great entertainment value, but not enough to contend for something more substantial. (I have yet to see it, so maybe it may surprise me.)
Comparison to Get Out may be unfair. Get Out is classical Hollywood storytelling. It has an original concept and a full-fledged story.

It got a PGA nom! Still a long shot but the field is pretty soft this year so if ever there was a chance...
