Re: Production Budgets
Why would they greenlight such a huge budget?? A Tron: Legacy kind of performance was about the ceiling for this film and that only did 'ok' with $400m WW.

Re: Production Budgets
RP1 will clear $600m worldwide, so nothing to be worried about. mark66 wrote: $7m I Can Only Imagine Great standard budget for a film Christians will eat up.

Re: Production Budgets
RP1 looks like a video game adaptation which is not as popular in OS and neither is Spielberg so I don't think its guaranteed to do $600m WW even with a domestic breakout of $200m total.

Re: Production Budgets
Yep and that's the reason The Post, The BFG, Lincoln, War Horse all failed to reach $150m OS.

Those films wouldn't have made anymore with any other director.

Re: Production Budgets
Agreed but its the HUGE pull that made them fail to reach $150m. BTW BFG is pretty much in the same boat as RP1 if not more popular children's book than RP1 is for teenagers/adults.

Re: Production Budgets
Audiences are more selective these days, but that doesn't change the fact that Spielberg is hugely popular. And those films you cited are not 'blockbuster Spielberg', nor Spielberg at his best. You put Spielberg + science-fiction blockbuster, and it has the potential, and always will have.

Re: Production Budgets
Oh so you meant Spielberg and sci-fi as a HUGE pull. We'll see but as of now I don't think this is getting past $350m OS, feels like a non-event which won't do big numbers aside from China which might overperform and alone get it past $300m OS mark.

Re: Production Budgets
Spielberg is hugely popular no matter what genre. Do The Post with Ron Howard or Ridley Scott, and it makes half what it makes with Spielberg.

Re: Production Budgets
I don't necessarily disagree that Spielberg isn't popular but I also feel his last few set of movies have disappointed specially in OS markets. People aren't jumping over flocking to every Spielberg movie even with great reviews.

Re: Production Budgets
Again, you have to look at the genre. Teens are obviously not jumping over themselves to see The Post, but compared to other similar films, because this was made by Spielberg its numbers are better than comparable titles.

Re: Production Budgets
You mean domestically? Because I can bring out some titles that did better than The Post, plus it was also a combination of Streep/Hanks that helped the movie.

Re: Production Budgets
Paul and Unsane will obviously make money back.
That's HUGE for PRU, I really cannot understand why they would allow that big of a budget and I know its lesser than the last one but still its domestic results were dismal last time and there was a high chance of a drop this time.
I don't remember the budget for Gnomeo but that's a decent budget for Sherlock.

Re: Production Budgets
That's great budget for both movies. I really think A Quiet Place will breakout big. Blockers will do Game Night numbers.

Excellent budgets. A Quiet Place should break out to low 20s.
