Re: 2018 Oscar Chat
I'd like for Hawkins to steal this, but she doesn't have a chance.
McDormand was a force in TBOE,M and she deserves it.

Why were people laughing at that Lady Bird scene? What the hell?

Jodi Foster is on crutches, and when JLaw asked her why all she said was "Streep."

Re: 2018 Oscar Chat
RIght, so the biggie.
I really hope Lady Bird doesn't get it. Or Get Out. The Academy will regret those in years to come. Not Oscar pedigree at all. Dunkirk or THree Billboards or even The Post should get it.

Re: 2018 Oscar Chat
I know it is hard to tell when outside the country, but Get Out had a huge impact on American culture this year and will definitely be remembered as a worthy winner.
And black people don't give a fuck about Moonlight, so its not like they are doing the same thing in back to back years.

Re: 2018 Oscar Chat
Would love The Post or Dunkirk to get it. Probably 3 Billboards.
Anything but Shape of Water.

Re: 2018 Oscar Chat
I mentioned this in the predictions thread, but here's my thinking.
If there wasn't a preferential ballot, Get Out and Lady Bird wouldn't have a chance. They very much do, though LB's has taken a hit by not winning anything. I think its down to Water, Get Out, Lady Bird, and Dunkirk.
I picked Water, I hope Dunkirk, but I think it's Get Out.

Based on that tepid response, it's not Dunkirk.

Safe and boring pick. A good movie, but the same as Argo, The Artist, Spotlight, etc...

Yep, but at least it's very good. Out of the four it was down to, it will be the most forgotten though.

Jet ski paid off. A life vest and Hellen Mirren got the laugh from me.

Anyway, just glad they didn't completely fold and give it to Get Out. So how long before the #OscarsSoWhite movement gets up and running again?

Re: 2018 Oscar Chat
The Shape of Water is a very mediocre winner, in my opinion, and I am a fan of del Toro in general. I knew my far-and-away favorite of the bunch, Phantom Thread, would not win, but I was pulling for Three Billboards... Oh, well.
I love how they still found an ever-so-slightly sour note to end on, with another Shape of Water producer stepping to the mic and uttering one syllable before being swept away by music. Though he should have read the moment and let the film's primary author have the final word.
