The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Predictions
This seems to be the first attempt at a big live action Nutcracker film. It reminds me the most of A Christmas Carol (2009). I could see a 35m opening and well north of 100m total like that film.

I haven't seen the trailer, but it certainly is not a third round pick.

This will be a winter 2018 flop along with Mortal Engines.

Could be a big flop or decent hit but I don't think it will be a big blockbuster hit.

Re: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Predictions
It would be a massive flop with any studio other than Disney. They'll get this to open at least.

Re: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Predictions
lesterg has a point. Disney even managed to get A Wrinkle in Time to $100m, so it probably won't outright flop, though it shouldn't do well, and definitely won't spawn a franchise. It will most likely flop everywhere apart from the US, where it will do on the low-end for a winter live-action fantasy flick.

The social media footprint is alarming. My scales are tipping further into bomb land, can see sub-$20m OW unless marketing accelerates...and resonates.

Re: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Predictions
Best Case Scenario for me is A WRINKLE IN TIME, but something like ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS is more likely...

Looking better for Bohemian Rhapsody everyday in terms of breaking out and stealing the top spot that weekend.

Re: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Predictions
The biggest thing is that it will get crushed by The Grinch when that breaks out to huge numbers. It's only out one week before that happens. Could have done solid otherwise now it's not likely. I think it looks good though. Honestly they should move this to the normally dead weekend after Thanksgiving. Could have a couple weekends without new competition. Plus then Disney could stick the trailer with Ralph Breaks The Internet.

Re: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Predictions
Tickets are now on sale at AMC theaters. Although it looks like it will have numbers similar to BFG, I still will be seeing this.

Re: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Predictions
This is an obvious bomb. It's weird how Disney is able to take established properties like Marvel and Star Wars to massive new heights, but can't really get a new live action franchise to take off. This will join John Carter, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, A Wrinkle in Time, Christopher Robin, etc as another Disney misfire.

Disney puts absolutely no effort into making good scripts for these movies. Their tactic is to hope a brand name will carry it, and none of these had strong enough brands to keep them afloat with their low quality.

Is this related to how micro-controlling Disney are with their films (i.e. only hiring bland hacks for Marvel movies, all the Star Wars drama with directors coming in and out)? Maybe all the actually talented people in Hollywood choose to work for the other studios.

Tracking in the $23-26m range. Going the wrong direction, a miss for the mouse house.

Re: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Predictions
It sure didn't help that it just looks like a spinoff of Alice in Wonderland, completely lacking in personality.
It was one of my most anticipated films of 2018...until I saw the trailer.

Re: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Predictions
Bumping this up on a boring weekend. Anyone think Disney will be able to pull a rabbit out of the hat? Great theater count but likely to translate to lots of empty seats. FB is stagnant with only 100K likes and it's DOA on Twitter. Poor by even family film standards.

Re: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Predictions
Wouldn't be surprised by under $20M debut. Looks lame and we have Grinch, Beasts and Ralph coming up, stealing any attention away.

I think it looks good, but yeah I won't be surprised by sub-20 either.
