60/250 run. Wan will make the best reviewed DCEU movie for sure. Plus it has a great release date.

75/265mil. I trust Wan as a filmmaker and believe that, along with Wonder Woman, Aquaman will keep the DCEU alive.

So...

Gonna keep expectations low with how JL is doing but I think the year gap without a DC film will help, and from what we know this hasn't been a troubled production so it probably won't be hacked to pieces.

I'm expecting an Antman performance at worse, and Christmas legs should help out.

This has more in common with Wonder Woman than Justice League. It’s a fresh property that won’t have the stink of BvS as much. Though Aquaman is not nearly as popular as Wonder Woman, so an opening near her is only possible if the marketing kills it. More likely a 60-70ish opening.

I can see this do Doctor Strange type of run with the character being one of the most known from DC comics. Wan has good will and I trust he can make a good film so this should get good reviews though I don't see it getting WW's type of reception.

$80m/$225m

Given all the negative baggage the DC film universe is now accumulating, I have low expectations here. Wan is talented, but this is no Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman had the unique novelty of being the first major superhero film with a major female superhero as the lead. Aquaman doesn't have that novelty.

I'll be happy if this can cross 200M domestic, and 600M WW.

It will probably have the same darkly-list CGI mess aesthetic as BvS and Justice League, so I expect people to lump it in the same well as those stinkers. $130 total.

Its water based CGI and from whatever was shown in JL it will be dark but I feel there is still a goodwill/appeal for these solo DC movies as tentpoles.

One thing that might happen now is that WB/DC start panicking and they interfere with production, making cameos from Wonder Woman and Batman or other plots that needn't be in the film, and then it turns into another mess. And who's to say this would be a great film even without any studio interference? The creative team behind this is not stellar. It comes from people that were involved in Green Lantern, BvS, Furious 7 and Gangster Squad, and it stars three of the biggest box office poisons in the industry; Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Dolph Lundgren.

Haha that's fair but I think those things might impact its legs specially if it gets mixed response. If the movie is marketed decently it should open well. DCEU cannot have anymore of hiccups/fuck-ups, they need to hit home run from here on for next few years before they can think of JL. I just hope the current set of actors are not replaced and WB/DC is able to work around something in the long run.

I don't think Aquaman is the right property to turn the DCU around. Wonder Woman clearly wasn't. The Batman seems like the logical favourite. I bet WB are kicking themselves now that they didn't let Snyder make Man of Steel 2.

Sure Aquaman or WW alone cannot save DCEU and it has to be a continuous set of movies that would then make a big pay-off in a team-up a few years down the line.

I do not see any way to rectify the current DCU. I'm all for a reboot, starting with The Batman (regardless of who plays him).

I was all for a reboot until I saw Justice League. I can see the direction they are headed in and I gotta say, for the first time I am excited. There is some nice organic viral marketing going on for Momoa. I could see this breakout.

What are you excited about? How is what they're attempting any different than MCU? Isn't it just trashy comedy and shitty villains? I have not seen Justice League, which is why I am asking. Is it genuinely exciting, or are you just being loyal because you want it to succeed? I have a hard time imagining anything in Justice League to show potential for something that isn't shit. Like, I just do not believe there is anything in there that warrants them not rebooting it all.

I am a DC fan who, outside of Wonder Woman, has hated this series thus far. The Justice League finally gets the characters down and understands them where Snyder seemed to be re-writing them in Frank Miller o'vision. The movie itself was okay in terms of story and felt kinda lackluster, but I'd chalk that up to extreme production issues. Also Steppenwolf is a piss poor villain in both the comics and the movie, so that's on Snyder still. Finally:

Spoiler: show
With the post-credits they have finally gotten Lex Luthor down in one of the best moments in the film which references the beginning of the Injustice League which is full of iconic villains which the Marvel films do not have. Learning from past mistakes, which the addition of humor indicates, I think they will set up Justice League 2 properly by slowly introducing the villains in the solo movies

So Snyder did Steppenwolf justice?

If he is a bad villain in the comics, and a bad villain the movie, that just sounds like "good job, Snyder".

Yeah i think the most exciting thing about Aquaman is its December release date. I don't think we've ever had a major superhero release at Christmas so i think this has a lot of potential.

And it will be only the 3rd time in a decade that the December slate doesn't have a Star Wars, Middle Earth or Avatar film as its major tent pole so it have the latitude to make bank (unless the animated Spider-man film somehow breaks out which i doubt).

Oh this is what happened last time as well after BvS, SS should do well; after SS, WW should do well; after WW now if only JL can do well; after JL, if Aquaman does well.

I am not hoping this will be great even if it has the release date advantage the actual movie will have to be great and from the looks of it in JL, Atlantis wasn't a world that I am (assuming many people are) excited to visit again.

The problem with your theory is that Wonder Woman DID do well...it won the fricking summer away from the most awaited Marvel sequel since Civil War...sorry if you didn't like Wonnder Woman, but the film was a smash hit.

Once again, Magnus is right, if Aquaman does well, DC will be fine.

Ehh, that does not make sense. Wonder Woman "did well", and DC wasn't fine afterwards (*cough* Justice League *cough*).

Agreed another good movie alone won't cut it for DCEU they need a few years of consistent great movies that brings back the goodwill for this Universe. Its not like every time they fuck-up the next movie will bring DCEU back to life, these solo movies have their own audience as well which might not always overlap with team-ups. And SS2 is a BAD BAD idea, I think that is another JL in the making, none of these villains are part of solo movies (as of now) so there is just no further build-up for them.
