Rumors are everywhere. That would basically complete the Marvel Universe. And it gives them Avatar 2-5. I love Disney, but this is still kinda sad. I want more competition among the big studios, not less.

Would that pass antitrust laws? Certainly seems like too big media powerhouse.

I read the talks have ended, not sure how serious they were about it.

Yeah, that's my thought. While Avatar, X-Men, Alvin, Home Alone, The Simpsons etc would be a good fit for Disney, there are so many properties (Die Hard, Deadpool, Aliens, Apes, Predator) that would be an odd match.

I really can't see Disney making things like The Martian or The Revenant either (not to mention Fox Searchlight's output).

Disney's use to own Miramax (Luckily got out out of that in 2010, lol), Dimension, and Touchstone. They don't need to release it under their own name.

Yeah, exactly. It would be ownership, not a rebrand. Just like how Thor: Ragnarok was from Marvel Studios, not from Disney.

Sure but again - Disney has been focused on acquiring things that can be exploited across all their divisions. Even if Fox remains a stand-alone studio, I’ve got to think Disney would want to exploit with IPs as much as possible.

Yeah, but it doesn't seem like they would water down Fox. At most it's to finish the Marvel and SW rights they don't have. And a few franchises as a bonus.

I'd be excited if it kills Scott's involvement with Alien and we get the Aliens sequel. Disney does know how to run a studio, and their subsidiaries. If Fox and all their smaller studios get better as a result, it's a good thing

I would rather think they would be watered down than really get better. But yeah some of Fox's family oriented movies will get better but we will get mostly all of their R-rated movies in watered down PG-13 versions and that's not going to be an improvement.

Don’t sell it to Disney please. We need more R rated comic book movies

If it included Fox News (which it doesn't) I'd be completely in favor

This would be insane and should be illegal. Same with the AT&T and Warner merger. Unrestrained capitalism like this is extremely dangerous, power like the worldwide mass media wields should never be concentrated in such few hands.

So Comcast made a cash offer for Fox now?

Which would put the X-Men under the... Universal banner?

I think Murdoch has the greater influence here. I heard he has a 40% stake. He's really for Disney. I would hope Disney just matches the deal. They would make any difference back many times over anyway over time with merchandising and the variety of new characters to play with at their disposal.

Murdoch doesn’t want one time cash offer. He wants cash & stocks cause Disney stocks is going to get bigger which means more $$ for him in the future.

Although it be cool if Comcast gets it. :D keep making R rated Deadpool & X-Men movies

Comcast says it's willing to out-bid Disney.

(But won't Disney just out-bid them again? I mean, surely they have way more money)

Disney has less liquid cash, but offers Murdoch better long term benefits and better stock options

If Fox being bought by Comcast means they can still do movies like Three Billboards, Shape of Water, the Apes Trilogy, Red Sparrow, Revenant, etc. I would very much prefer that deal to the Disney one.

If Disney is buying mainly to obtain the rights to certain Marvel characters and not interested in expanding its adult reach, then I would prefer for Fox to sell them those rights and continue being 'independent'.
But I feel the worst case scenario is the one happening: Disney buys Fox, gets the licenses it wants and doesn't care about anything else, thus making certain filmmakers and production companies move to other studios.

There's also the possibility of Murdoch selling Fox, then slowly taking over Disney via himself + his sons himself and changing the direction of the company as a whole, allowing for a film division for adult stuff.

How? This is a fucking nightmare if Comcast takes over.

Disney buying Fox almost makes no changes. It's just acquiring new properties and leaving Fox as is. Comcast wants to change the whole structure.

Surprised so many of you prefer the industry heading towards a monopoly than for Comcast to acquire Fox. Jesus.
