I tried this a few years ago, but it didn't really work out. Let's see if 2017 can do better.

1. Ozcy Mlody by The Flaming Lips - B-

None of the songs are bad, but they're not great either. Even the disappointing Terror had "Look The Sun Is Rising".

As Thanos would say, I'll just do it myself then.

1. Ozcy Mlody by The Flaming Lips - B-
2. I See You by The XX - C+
3. Near To The Wild Heart Of Life by Japandroids - B+
4. Life Without Sound by Cloud Nothings - A-

I've never been a fan of the XX, but this was a step in the right direction. Japandroids is a solid follow up to Celebration Rock, though it never quite reaches the heights of a "House That Heaven Built". Cleveland's own Cloud Nothings continue to pretty darn consistent as I gave the first two A-s as well.

Unfortunately Ty Segall is one of the remaining few streaming hold outs. So I guess I'll have to torrent that or something. Damnit just when my hands are finally clean!

No, no, I plan to also do this. But I tend to listen to single songs on YouTube or parts of an album in the car. I also listen to complete albums, but I just haven't yet this year besides some on my flight to the USA (that I've forgotten) and...

1. Whiplash OST A

At the end of the year I would have forgotten loads, I guess. It's just a lot to track in my life because music is a lot easier to listen to in patches then film or TV is to watch in patches.

Ummm, I think it's supposed to be 2017 albums, not just any album you've heard in 2017 but Flava fucked up the thread title a bit to suggest otherwise.

Well in that case I haven't listened to any yet and probably won't contribute to this thread.

I am not going to maintain a running list with grades because albums need to be absorbed, lived with, revisited, etc., but, so far for 2017, I highly enjoy the new albums by the xx and Allison Crutchfield.

I am excited to hear the new Elbow.

Nah you can list whatever you want. Especially if its new to you! Consider this more like the "how many films have you seem at home" thread than "films in review".

D, I agree mostly, but also thought it'd be interesting to see how my grades change over the year. It's so easy to revisit music.

Algren I really like listening to a full new album on my way to work, so that inflates my numbers with stuff like XX and Migos that I might otherwise ignore. If you have a short commute that doesn't really work though lol.

I listened to like 3 albums today or so. How about we just exchange our last fm accounts :)

Noted. I'm always down for some new Brit Pop.

1. Ozcy Mlody by The Flaming Lips - B-
2. I See You by The XX - C+
3. Near To The Wild Heart Of Life by Japandroids - B+
4. Life Without Sound by Cloud Nothings - A-
5. Culture by Migos - C+
6. I Decided by Big Sean - B
7. Ty Segall by Ty Segall - A

Ty has released ten albums since the decade began and continues to get better. I'll post some tracks in the New Music thread. One of the comments on youtube said "He should have yelled We Are Sex Bomb-omb at the beginning" and I couldn't agree more. Except these songs have killer solos too.

9. Road Less Traveled by Lauren Alaina - C+
10. Fifty Shades Darker OST - B
11. Beachheads by Beachheads - B

Dr Dog released their album for people who donate to their charity. And quite frankly it sounds like a free chairty album. The songs are fine, but more in the folksy singin around the campfire type of way. I hadn't intended to listen to the Fifty Shades soundtrack beyond the Halsey and Taylor songs (the first two). It kept surprising me though and there are some jams on here. Beachheads was also a surprise. I like how they started Brit poppy and then get harder as the album goes along. Might raise it to a B+ on further listens.

15. Savage Times by Hanni El Khatib - B
16. Prisoner by Ryan Adams - B-

Alot of fine but mostly forgettable rock filled my last two weeks. Hanni and VANT both have some great songs though and could rise on further listens.

Tame Impala bassist Cameron Avery's solo album, Ripe Dreams, Pipe Dreams, is excellent.

Spoon and Rick Ross disappoint, coming off what were IMO their strongest albums, They Want My Soul and Mastermind. Charli XCX saves the update though! Highly recommend it.

Mike Will Made It and Old 97s deliver the best hip hop and country albums of the young year. "Going Backwards" is terrific on the Depeche album. And I think Mr. david would dig the Creeper album.

Old 97's are always a warm, reliable presence on the rock-and-roll/alternative-country landscape.

I will give the Creeper record a listen.
