Re: SNL Season 42
John Cena is hosting! And with music guest Maren Morris too. That show is gonna be lit. I hope he plays Hilary Clinton again.

Re: SNL Season 42
The writing on SNL finally hit its stride with the Emma Stone epsiode last night, with subtle and sophisticated humor replacing some of the more juvenile gags that have populated season 42. Emma Stone was charming and so talented as always, though the cast seemed to be lacking somewhat in performance energy. Other than the Fisher Price Wishing Well commercial, there were no standout skits, but on the other hand there were no outright stinkers either.

Re: SNL Season 42
Why is John Cena hosting? Seems so random. Wrestling isn't popular enough anymore for him to get recognized for that. He has some fun movie roles, but nothing to promote.
Emma Stone is a joy to watch on SNL. Too bad it took five years for her to host her 3rd show. She should be well into the five timers club by now.
The Hunt for Hill was excellent.

Emma slayed as per usual. I really hope she does more straight comedies after she wins her Oscar, it's really her strong point.

Re: SNL Season 42
Well they treated John like any other athlete, which is disappointing considering that acting is part of his normal job. Oh well, still a decent show. Maren was great. Is it just me, or is Cecily being groomed for leadership? I wouldn't be too surprised if McKinnon bailed. Does she really want to keep playing Kelly Anne? She'd get a sitcom in an instant.

McKinnon will be there until the end of this season or sometime next season but she's definitely leaving. And not for sitcom stuff, she has a bunch of big movies coming down the pipeline and just got a leading role in something.

Holy cow - Felicity Jones was horrible in her opening. Why are they even having her host, like 5+ weeks after Rogue One came out??

Re: SNL Season 42
You can tell that Felicity Jones is a real Star Wars actress, because she was as stiff as a board on SNL. This whole episode was poorly written and amateurishly performed - but hopefully the writers and performers have knocked their rust off, and next week's Aziz Ansari episode will be a return to form.

I felt terrible for Felicity in the opening. Not everyone is prepared for a live comedy show.

Yeah, her opening monologue was really, really bad. The rest of the show was fine, though.

I only just now watched that on youtube and I think it's the worst monologue I've ever seen on the show (granted, I haven't seen that many). Felicity Jones seems really overrated actually, not sure how she became so popular.

Re: SNL Season 42
I have no issue with Felicity Jones on SNL. Her performance on the show was fine. Not the best, not the worst. Yeah the monologue was bad but some actors and actresses are not so easily adaptable to sketch comedy live.

Re: SNL Season 42
Aziz Ansari had no where to go but up after last week's guest host, but he was only good, not great. My favorite sketch was the movie groupthink satire - it felt like I was watching a KJ thread brought to life! And even though Cecily Strong is one of my favorite cast members, it was painful to watch her butcher To Sir With Love. The intention was nice, but her off-key singing ruined it.

Re: SNL Season 42
That was Grade A trolling on SNL's part to open with Putin instead of Trump. Cause we all know Trump was watching to see what Baldwin would do with the inauguration.

Re: SNL Season 42
The Kristen Stewart episode had some better than average writing - I especially enjoyed Weekend Update's Donald Trump / La La Land analogy: Quote: The White House responded to criticism of the travel ban saying they're not banning Muslims, they're just banning people from seven Muslim majority countries, Which is sort of like saying, 'We're not banning white people, we're just banning people who love La La Land'. The Sean Spicer bit was elevated from petty political partisanship by the unexpected and great cameo impersonation. And Alessia Cara does a pretty great Adele imitation. Plus, the Totino commercial may have been the best commercial parody all season.

Re: SNL Season 42
I feel like Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer was supposed to open the show and probably should have, but they know Baldwin as Trump grabs the headlines more. It even jokingly ended with "Live from New York...".

I hope they're not going to carry on with the skeleton mask for Steve Bannon, it's lazy and unfunny compared to a proper comic impersonation.

Re: SNL Season 42
Too soon back to the well with the Melissa McCarty bit on this week's Alec Baldwin hosted episode - it was pretty much an exact repeat of last week's skit. SNL shouldn't waste McCarty's talent on repetitive writing. The rest of the episode was also well below average.

Re: SNL Season 42
I kind of knew SNL wouldn't bow to the public's demand to have Rosie O'Donnell play Steve Bannon, but it was definitely too soon to have Melissa back as Sean Spicer. Although it is a winning performance. No way she doesn't win a Guest Actress Emmy.
I appreciate SNL trolling the administration. Word is Trump and Co. were unhappy that a woman played Spicer, so they upped it with Kate McKinnon playing Sessions.
