13th WOKJ MP Awards: Noms Announcement TONIGHT 8 pm EST!
Let's get this baby rolling, shall we. PLEASE, read the rules and the procedure before voting, m'kay?Voting Process:Send me your five nominees for each category below. What is important is that you RANK your nominees from #1 to #5 because of the points system. UNRANKED BALLOTS will NOT be counted. If you cannot come up with five nominees for each category, then send me less, but I would REALLY prefer if you all tried to come up with 5 for each category. The Categories:Best Picture (only five nominees here) Best Director Best Actor Best Actress Best Supporting Actor Best Supporting Actress Best Ensemble Best Original Screenplay Best Adapted Screenplay Best Animated Feature Best Documentary Best Foreign Language Film Best Cinematography Best Editing Best Original Score Best Original Song Best Makeup Best Visual Effects Best Art Direction Best Costume Design Breakthrough of the Year (before or behind the camera) Best Sound Best Horror Film of the Year Funniest Comedy of the Year- Best Foreign Language Film and Best Documentary categories: to be nominated a film has to appear on at least three ballots. A mimimum of three films (each) need to reach that threshold for the category to be active. Also, as before, if less than ten people vote in either of these categories, the category will also be skipped. DEADLINE: Friday, February 3rd, midnight PST Send the RANKED ballot to me before the deadline!DON'T FORGET TO RANK THE NOMINEES FROM 1 to 5!You are allowed to change/upgrade your ballot until the deadline. If you do so, send me the entire corrected ballot, not just the corrected category. Important: Do not vote for any movies that you have NOT seen. If I have a grounded suspicion that this is the case, I will call you out on that. Click here for the FYC ThreadClick here for the Categories Clarification Thread

I haven't seen any oscar bait yet. Maybe it's better this way.
Go Zootopia!!!!!!!!! I hope we can break up the monotony of the LaLa-Moonlight-Manchester holy triangle with something fun/unique, but getting Zootopia in is all that really matters.

Manchester by The Sea is such a pretentious title for a film.

This silly comment ebokes a strong déjà-vu, especially with Flava'd vs The World posting right before it. viewtopic.php?p=2142628#p2142628It is a fucking town.

And this a new year Doc. We can't just focus on our past victories and assume the Zootopiacs will turn up. That's how the Democrats lost.

I don't think so. Doesn't have the passion. La La Land v zootopia is the battle.

I hope Arrival wins, even though there's no chance I'll see it by the nomination time. Maybe by the voting deadline.

Arrival winning would be an upset? Other than La La Land it has by far the best shot.

What will be the five nominees? I don't think Silence will make it anymore, despite Marty.
La La Land Arrival Moonlight The Witch Zootopia
are my guesses. Though I am not all that sure that Zootopia will have enough passion behind it...

Re: 13th WOKJ Motion Picture Awards - Nominees voting has be
I've only seen Zootopia of those so far, but it's not even in my top 10, so it wouldn't even get my nomination.
What I hope to see in order before the end of the month: Arrival, La La Land, Moonlight. The Witch I'd have to really get a lot of times on my hands.

I think it's very plausible but I would put a question mark behind VVitch and Moonlight (have enough people seen the latter? review thread is very limited, although its my #1 of the year and I haven't written a reiew either) Zootopia is strong, not Inside Out / Ratatouille strong for the win but definitely looking for a nom.

other possibities? Hell or High Water, The Lobster, Deadpool, Midnight Special? some people seem to love Allied, The Neon Demon? hard to predict and the more I think about it the more I think Lecter's lineup is likely. Non-BP categories will be a little less predictable.

Maybe 10 Cloverfield Lane? Captain America Civil War?
People liked Dory but only one animated if any will get in.

Re: 13th WOKJ Motion Picture Awards - Nominees voting has be
Nonsense. I don't think The Witch is good, but I'd love to see it get in above Manchester By The Sea. Not happening though. Same with Deadpool and Civil War (both totally deserve it though). You can check the Top 10 thread and get a pretty good idea of what has passion and what doesn't. Zootopia could totally win since everyone else seems to be spread out between Arrival and the 3 big oscar bait movies.

Re: 13th WOKJ Motion Picture Awards - Nominees voting has be
Those doubting The Witch should really consider the history of the WOKJ awards and look at the film's high ratings. Remenmber when It Follows got a Best Director nomination last year? Or when Let the Right One In was nominated as Best Picture? Or when Drag Me to Hell managed four or five noms? Acclaimed horror films have always performed well here and there is strong passion behind The Witch.

All of those movies, and Cabin in the Woods which got nothing, were much more audience friendly. The Witch is a David movie. It's a huge bummer and half the dialogue is unintelligible.

I think enough people, myself included, consider The VVitch to be among the year's best and will vote for it as such. It's not as strong as La La, Arrival, or Zootopia, but it should get in.

I fail to see how a dark Swedish vampire drama and an indie horror flick about a sexually transmitted demon that grossed less combined than The Witch are more audience-friendly.
