SAG Awards 2016 Anticipation
These will be announced on December 16th. What can we expect? In recent years there have been plenty of crazy surprises, like Beasts of No Nation winning Best Supporting Actor and receiving an Ensemble nod or Naomi Watts being nominated for St. Vincent.
I think Hell or High Water will get in for Ensemble pushing its Oscar chances. I wonder if La La Land will miss Ensemble because it is basically a two-players-film.
On the other hand I could see Florence Foster Jenkins scoring very well here, with nominations for Streep, Grant and the Ensemble. Hail, Caesar! is another potential Ensemble nominee.

Re: SAG Awards 2016 Anticipation
There goes any chance of Huppert or Bening upsetting at the Oscars. It's clearly Stone v. Portman.
Tom Hanks is also fucked.
Girl On The Train is a big surprise but I'm happy for Emily.
I think Gosling is getting in for Best Actor now.

Re: SAG Awards 2016 Anticipation
Pretty standard noms by SAG standard, with the only real left-field choice being Captain Fantastic for Ensemble. Viggo boosted his chance tremendously with two noms in two days, replacing Hanks. Best Supporting Actress matched 5 for 5 with GG and looks to be the most likely lineup, with Janelle Monae lurking. Could totally see Hidden Figures itself making into the BP field.

Hidden Figures will be getting nominated for Best Picture.
Also, Loving has been super weak this season hasn't it. I don't even know if Ruth Negga is a lock anymore.

Re: SAG Awards 2016 Anticipation
I knew La La Land wasn't getting an Ensemble nom. It would have been ridiculous. No idea why you expected it to make it. So I repeat my question: will La La Land become the second BP winner ever without a SAG Ensemble nom? And at the same time make Chazelle the youngest BD winner ever?

Re: SAG Awards 2016 Anticipation
Yeah, La La Land is a two-hander. Even the more established actors in the supporting cast like Rosemarie DeWitt and J.K. Simmons basically only have extended cameos.

Re: SAG Awards 2016 Anticipation
Negga was never close to be a lock, especially given how competitive the category is.
The awards season has been dominated by three films that the buzz for any other films just doesn't feel that big. Fences has done enough for me to in fact put it 4th. Silence continues to be silent, and films like Loving and Nocturnal Animals haven't registered at all.

Harbour's speech was cringe worthy, but Winona's weird faces were hilarious.

Will Denzel pull a Mark Rylance or an Alan Arkin and take the award everyone thought was guaranteed to Affleck?

Re: SAG Awards 2016 Anticipation
There are a lot of things pointing to Denzel's win. SAGs have been black domination since the controversy, he never had a SAG and the whole being a play feel to Fences may have appealed to actors and their craft (Meryl Streep winning for Doubt could be an example of that too). So I guess it's possible Denzel got swept up in that and Oscars still go to Casey, I'll take the most respected black actor vs white male abuser though

Whoops, the correct comparison is: Will Denzel pull an Eddie Redmayne and take the award everyone thought was guaranteed to Affleck?

Re: SAG Awards 2016 Anticipation
I'm all about Winona's faces right now. So hilarious. I hope Denzel doesn't get the Oscar. Ugh. Great performance but if he's going to win it should be for a movie that's not a big POS. Casey should win. Very interesting Hidden Figures won. Maybe La La Land will lose momentum and it will win Best Picture .
