Re: Japan Box Office: Fantastic Beasts Delivers Huge 1st Day
Take your time, Corpse.
On another note, it is exciting to know if YN has really cross that 19.6b mark to replace Howl in the Japan Big Five. My calculation for it should be reaally close to that number, either slightly lower or higher. YN had a less than 20% drop from last weekend.. or not, since from my understanding mimorin is not the entire theater. Earlier madman informed (I think around thursday), that YN has passed mononoke with 19.42b.

Re: Japan Box Office: Fantastic Beasts Delivers Huge 1st Day
Check your PMs, KillerAngel - lots of info there. I was occupied over the weekend, so I haven't read any news regarding Your Name. over the past four or five days. If it had in fact grossed ¥19.42 billion as of Thursday (or Friday if it's an English source - English sources usually post info a day late and add that extra day on), then it likely exceeded ¥19.6 billion over the weekend thanks to a ¥200 million or so (~¥203 million) weekend based on my estimate. So... it probably has surpassed Howl's Moving Castle to become the fifth highest-grossing film of all-time.

Re: Japan Box Office: Fantastic Beasts Debuts On Top
Harry Potter - Opening Weekends:
¥2.068 billion / 1,467,945 - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ¥2.050 billion / 1,390,446 - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets ¥1.871 billion / 1,469,755 - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ¥1.691 billion / 1,359,454 - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ¥1.550 billion / 1,279,120 - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ¥1.301 billion / 880,697 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 ¥988.1 million / 805,297 - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ¥937.4 million / 766,633 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1
¥825.0 million / 575,000 (Est.) - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
So, below the Harry Potter films, unsurprisingly, considering the Harry Potter films, especially the earlier films, are among the biggest openers of all-time with 4 in the Top 10 and 6 in the Top 20: 2nd; 3rd; 6th; 7th; 12th; 19th.
Fantastic Beasts' opening weekend is quite impressive, especially considering it was a 5-day opener. The only Harry Potter film that had a 5-day opening was Half-Blood Prince, and Beasts retained ~70% of its audience (probably over 80% in revenue). Let's see how close it comes to the HP franchise overall:
Harry Potter - Totals:
¥20.30 billion / 16.20 million - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ¥17.30 billion / 14.00 million - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets ¥13.50 billion / 11.00 million - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ¥11.00 billion / 9.00 million - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ¥9.67 billion / 6.90 million - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 ¥9.40 billion / 7.80 million - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ¥8.00 billion / 6.50 million - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ¥6.86 billion / 5.58 million - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1
Fantastic Beasts should, fairly easily, exceed ¥5 billion (the blockbuster milestone), and I think it has a good shot at ¥6 billion as well. I don't, however, think it'll quite be able to reach Deathly Hallows - Part 1 on the list. Still, it's going to get quite close - a lot closer than expected.

Is Resurrection Lelouch a movie or a show? And why are all my favorite dead anime characters being brought back to life this year?

CG will have a three-part film which will cover the first two season followed by a sequel, the format isn't Confirmed yet but most probably a series.

Cumulative number for YN is out and it's currently at Y 19.49b (taken from two sources: kogyotsushin and dorama.info). Madman news was at Friday so if 19.42b was accurate, it'll be as you said. So, a few more days until entering the Big Five (perhaps Thursday/Friday ??). note: If i'm translating it correctly, the admission total is exactly 15 Million. Don't know if they rounded the value or something. Anyway, no number update yet for other releases including FB and other openers. edit: HR just posted this. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/y ... ime-950660FB five-day opening is confired at US$ 15.5m. Wait Corpse for full update. update: YN at UK from screendaily. Screendaily wrote: Your Name enjoyed a huge boost in its second weekend, taking $83,000 (£66,339) from only 20 sites.
National Amusement’s release of the Japanese box office smash has now amassed $255,000 (£204,387) and its $4,144 (£3,317) site average was the second-highest this weekend, behind only Fantastic Beasts.
Last Thursday (November 24), Your Name enjoyed the biggest single day for an anime at the UK box office with $135,000 (£108,372) from 104 sites.

Re: Japan Box Office: Fantastic Beasts Debuts On Top
Your Name. is at ¥19.49 billion ($188.6 million) with 14.99 million admissions after this weekend. Glad it's doing well in the U.K., yet another market that it's performing well in. If it does breakout in China, maybe it has a chance at $350-400 million worldwide.
I'll have actuals for Fantastic Beasts (estimates were very accurate) with the Weekend Actuals update in an hour or so.

So I believe YN has now (as of today) enter again two exclusive clubs: 15 million admission club and 20x multiplier club. I'm too lazy to count though, it's just seems like it :p

WK3 07 (04) ¥56,033,500 ($509,000), -50%, ¥2,040,420,600 ($18.6 million), Death Note: Light Up the New World (Warner Bros.) WK5 08 (03) ¥48,729,800 ($443,000), -59%, ¥734,346,350 ($6.8 million), Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (Towa Pictures) WK4 09 (06) ¥41,260,300 ($375,000), -43%, ¥207,090,800 ($1.9 million), St. Youth (Kadokawa) WK2 10 (08) ¥37,359,900 ($339,000), -39%, ¥561,383,400 ($5.1 million), Drowning Love (Gaga) WK4>Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them delivered an exceptional opening week, and while it's below all the Harry Potter films, unsurprisingly, it earned itself a very successful start in the market and achieved the biggest opening weekend for any live-action film released in 2016.
The first film in the Harry Potter prequel series sold an impressive 546,138 admissions across a whopping 966 screens over the weekend frame to claim the top spot. And since opening last Wednesday, it managed to sell an excellent 1,190,450 admissions over the course of its 5-day opening week. Overall, the opening is high enough to assure it exceeds the blockbuster milestone of ¥5 billion ($45 million), and unless it's for some reason unusually frontloaded, it'll probably earn over ¥6 billion ($55 million) as well.
>Your Name. is finally dethroned, and for good this time - there's no reclaiming the top spot after the very successful debut of Harry Potter's prequel predecessor. However, it's still holding on extraordinarily well, dropping less than 20% in the face of such a large opener, so there's still plenty of interest among people to still see the film despite it being in its fourteenth week of release.
And after fourteen weeks in release, it has officially surpassed Princess Mononoke to become the sixth highest-grossing film of all-time, and will surpass Howl's Moving Castle to break the All-Time Top 5 on probably Wednesday or Thursday. It has sold 14,986,285 admissions and is on track to enter the All-Time Top 5 Most-Attended Films as well (it needs to sell 16.21 million). It's also going to easily clear the ¥20 billion milestone, becoming only the fifth film in history to ever accomplish that feat.
>Death Note: Light Up the New World continues to fall at an alarming rate, but it did manage to exceed the ¥2 billion milestone over the weekend. However, since it's not stabilizing, its chances of reaching ¥2.5 billion (~$25 million) are gone now, so that's a little disappointing.

Re: Japan Box Office: Fantastic Beasts Debuts On Top
Meanwhile, 'Your name' collected $264,821 in Australia till now running over 46 theaters, which is almost par with its run in UK and the only competition it would face in China right now is from 'Fantastic Beasts' as Disney's 'Moana' is failing to attract viewers and having pretty mediocre run, the box office is quite open right now until one of the most awaited Chinese-American film 'The Great wall' hit the theaters. Another anime film, 'Detective Conan-The darkest nightmare' debuted at no 6 in China this weekend by collecting over $3 million. Btw, how fb is doing during regular days?

Re: Japan Box Office: Fantastic Beasts Debuts On Top
Highest Grossing Japan movies in Taiwan: "title" - cumulative earning - status - year recorded (in TWD/ New Taiwan Dollar) "your name" 200 million 6 weeks 2016-11-27 "The Ring" 102 million final 1999 "Howl's Moving Castle" 95 Million final 2005 "Spirited Away" 75 million final 2001 "One Piece Film: Z" 51 million final 2013 source: http://dorama.info/tw/state/ranking_box ... ear=&apx=1Corrected my over-estimate before regarding YN earning in Taiwan. For comparison, All time number one there was Avatar with 1.1 billion TWD.

Re: Japan Box Office: Fantastic Beasts Debuts On Top
It's ~$190 million. There was some confusion regarding its total due to a significant expansion in the Spring of 2005 that bloated the USD total. It made ¥2.2 billion after the expansion, which I added onto the actual total at one point when I was compiling various charts.

Your Name. is aiming for 17-19 weeks in the Top 5, and likely 21-23 weeks in the Top 10. In fact, I think it might challenge Spirited Away's record for most-consecutive weeks in the Top 10 (it later returned to the Top 10 for a few weeks after winning the Oscar).

Re: Japan Box Office: Fantastic Beasts Debuts On Top
That's the Oscar factor, with such stiff competition and three films from Disney the chances of nomination is pretty low to begin with, but again they might want a non-american film and that's Your name Anyway, it's Zootopia who will take the award home, it's even leading the charts in Annie with 11 nomination followed by Kubo with 10. Your name might easily hold the second place in december as well, is there any upcoming film which can overtake the top position?

I've watched it for 4 times now and its really good. I really wish it wins the Oscar, as much as I love Zootopia, YN is better than that.

Sadly, there's no chance whatsoever especially this year, but things could've been different if Funimation didn't pull it for the marketing strategy and waited for an year. For me Kubo was superior than Zootopia not Your name, after all it's individual opinion. Where you watched it four times?
