Post 58 bases in Iraq, McCain: getting out "not too important"
I guess it's pretty clear now what the plan was from the beginning, and why Republicans were always hostile to the idea of a timetable. Both McCain and Bush want a permanent occupation of Iraq, up to 60 bases, basically to keep an eye on the oil and to keep Iran in check.

McCain said today that getting the troops out is "not too important." He simply wants to stop the violence so that the occupation can continue without it being regarded as an actual war. It also puts into context his comments about staying in Iraq for 100 years. That was no gaffe. He means it. That was always the plan.

In theory it doesn't sound too bad, if they kind of acted like UN troops and just kept the violence and terrorism from rising up again when Iraq returns to any resemblence of decency (easier said than done).

You can't expect them to totally pull out, America has troops fucking everywhere.

I thought this was obvious for a long time now.

And the problem is, the whole thing is not about keeping peace there. That's a side product of keeping another Middle East base friendly to US interests.

(I only picked this thread since it was the most recent "Iraq" thread I could find).

Seems the country is about to disintegrate into three regions either by civil war or through agreement. Probably the former. When you look at current maps of ISIS gains, the northeastern part of Syria and the northern part of Iraq (excluding the Kurdish area) look like an entirely new country.

I wonder if the U.S. will covertly ally with Iran in beating back ISIS in Iraq while at the same time covertly supplying ISIS in Syria to battle Iranian proxies.

Chaos.

That's what American Empire of Evil brings everywhere it goes. There's no peace in Afganistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, now Ukraine. Egypt should have been a bloodbath too, but the generals told the US to fuck off.

What does the U.S. have to do with Ukraine? I can somewhat see destabilizing Iraq as contributing to problems in Syria, but not as the main cause.

What does the U.S. have to do with Ukraine?

Everything. Nuland said it herself - US spent $5 billion to bring nazi regime to power.

Except that never happened and if it did it resulted in jack shit and the U.S. has done jack shit of any real consequence in Ukraine. I see you still buy into the Stalinist tactic of calling everyone you disagree with a fascist--or at least your dear leader does.

If anyone is a fascist, it is Putin, obviously, but no way can you see it. Corporatism? Check. Racial politics and persecution of minorities? Check. Mix of church and state to control the masses? Check. Longing for a mythical great past? Check.

Now back to Iraq.

I don't need "proof".

It's Russia. Everyone knows.

You can look it up by country.
"The US topped the list, with 24 percent of people believing America to be the biggest danger to peace. Pakistan came second, with 8 percent of the vote and was closely followed by China with 6 percent. Afghanistan, Iran, Israel and North Korea came in joint fourth place with 5 percent of the vote."
But don't worry, you'll live to see the fall of your empire of evil.

From the same site and the very next sentence:

1) "These results show that although the US is widely regarded as posing the greatest threat to peace, it is, paradoxically, still the most desired country to live in."

I think a large factor in the results is name recognition. Which would explain why Russia didn't rank high on the list danger list but it probably will next year. Another reason is envy.

Finally, even ignorant people have heard of the United States. If the question asked is "Which country is the most dangerous?" (same could be said for "best place to live") with the person responding required to state a country (rather than pick from a list), the U.S. is probably going to be over represented globally. Also the methodology is not uniform (calls, face-to-face, online). One of the problems with dealing with countries more and less developed. It would seem to be extremely difficult to get good sampling data from places like Afghanistan, Haiti, areas leveled by Russia, parts of Africa, etc. to know if you are sampling properly.

You can forget that, the UN is never going to take action against the US.
