As some may know, I'm not a DVD buyer - - but nonetheless I am seriously considering buying the Criterion edition of Hausu, the cult Japanese horror from the 70's - - it shows so rarely at the repertory theatres, and I still have never managed to see it.

I'm gonna attempt to resurrect this thread, so bear with me. On that note, June releases were announced today!

Kiss Me Deadly is of course a must-buy, and Insignificance and People on Sunday look really interesting as well. I'm not the biggest Louis Malle fan, but those could be good as well. Haven't heard of the others.

I fucking hate Kiss Me Deadly. But I am so ready for People on Sunday!

I just bought The Milky Way and Make Way for Tomorrow. Already watched Make Way and it doesn't leave my mind. I know it's a direct predecessor to Tokyo Story (which I haven't seen) but the scene with the old couple's last 5 hours reminded me a lot of the "fuck it, I'm gonna buy my son a decent meal!" restaurant scene in De Sica's Bicycle Thieves.

I had wanted to finish exploring Bunuel's Mexican period before moving on to his European return but there was a nice deal and I just had to get it. Besides, a lot of his Mexican movies remain hard to come by and I can't wait forever... I pray to my non-existant God every day for Criterion to issue an Bunuel in Mexico Eclipse box, one that included Subida al cielo, El gran calavera, Nazarin, El and La ilusion viaja en tranvia. Ensayo de un crimen and Los olvidados can get mainline releases. Also would be nice to get a double feature with Las hurdes and Un chien andalou.

I'm super-excited for their release of Kes. It's one of my favorite movies. I'm glad Criterion chose it.

There are so many Criterion Blu-rays I'd love to own/need to buy--The Double Life of Véronique is one of them, and Insignificance when it comes out.

I wish they'd bring Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Last Wave, Great Expectations (1948), In the Mood for Love, and the Six Moral Tales box set to Blu-ray (they're all available on Criterion DVD). ESPECIALLY Picnic at Hanging Rock.

I'd probably buy the movie just because of the coverart.

Barnesandnoble.com is running their 50% off criterion dvds currently. I splurged and got:

A Night to Remember
House
Battle of Algiers
Salo

I was looking at a couple others Belle du Jour and Diabolique but I passed for now.
