Forgot Clash opened later in Germany. Did some theater checking, looks like Avatar got relegated to very late hours and only 1 show per day. Seems like it's on its last breath if you ask me.

The biggest (and since about ten days only) big multiplex in Cologne added two 3D screens very recently, meaning it is up to four now and can now show Avatar, Alice, Clash and Dragon in 3D all day. Last weekend it actually had Avatar on two and Alice /Dragon on one each!

This week on the other hand AVATAR lost most of those evening shows again because of TITANS... Because no major 3D release is scheduled for the next couple of weeks, AVATAR could get back some of those showtimes as ALICE gets weaker...

Yeah, I think despite the DVD release, Avatar will stick around in theatres until Shrek 4 is out. Which is on July 1st.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: Avatar passed 10.6m admissions!
Official Avatar admissions number after the weekend:
10,632,945
#11 all-time now
No really big 3D movies until July. 10,700,000 will happen within the next two weeks and so will its ascent to #10 on the all-time chart.
#9 is unreachable as it needs to beat 11,294,000 admissions in order to do that. No movies has passed 11 million admissions in Germany since Fellowship of the Ring back in 2001 (we had three 11+ million admissions films in 2001...). I beieve Avatar will make it there, though. At least 10.85 million is a lock, though, IMO.

Around 13%. Germans don't go as often to the movies as, say, the French.

At the theater near me Avatar has already passed Dragon in weekly attendance, which i find kind of sad for Dragon.

This weekend is going to be dead for pretty much everything. Nice weather is affecting all movies. We'll see a lot of horrendous drops and all openers disappointed. In the worst-case scenario we will see only ONE movie above 100,000 admissions (Clash of the Titans).

What are some of the big local films being released this summer?

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: Avatar passed 10.6m admissions!
There are no big German movies in the summer - first there's the world cup and after the soccer mania more US blockbusters are cramped into July & August leaving no room for German movies...

Bully's films aside, most German blockbusters are not released in the summer anyway (Keinohrhasen, Pope Joan, The Baader Meinhof Complex, Downfall, 7 Zwerge...)

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: Avatar passed 10.6m admissions!
We're looking at a very very bad weekend. Weather is good once again, the box-office is DEAD. We'll see one film topping 100,000 admissions - at most (Clash of the Titans which will have its third weekend at #1). Ugh...
It all bodes very well for Iron Man 2, though. Everything will be dead by the time it opens and considering the first had solid WoM and was a good DVD seller, an increase will happen. I see an opening of 400,000+ admissions.

Looks like Clash of the Titans will lead with 110,000 admissios in its third weekend. Kick Ass disappointed in its opening.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: Avatar passed 10.6m admissions!
Yesterday AVATAR surpassed LOTR2 and the 10.7m admissions mark to become the 10th biggest movie since 1968... Oh, and it looks like AVATAR will gain about 60 % in its 20th weekend thanks to rainy weather...
