Re: Saturday Night Live 2008/2009 season
Rosario Dawson was a terrific host but I thought most of the skits fell flat. I did really like the "Aladdin and Jasmine as a Married Couple" sketch, though.
Plus, Kristen Wiig was incredible doing that rapid-fire dialogue during Weekend Update. I love her.

Re: Saturday Night Live 2008/2009 season
Rosario Dawson was good, every single sketch fell flat though. I can't remember a good one. There were a lots of good moments within certain sketches. "Da Lurning Train" one or whatever it was called was good for about two minutes until Sudekis as Harry Connick Jr. showed up. And the Gilly sketch was working until they beat the same joke into the ground. Actually, there were two great "sketches" (they weren't live so I hesitate to call them that) last night now that I'm remembering the show more. North American Savings and Guantanamo Bay Going Out of Business Sale were both brilliant. And what a great job by the newbies last night. Bobby Moynihan is the only one who I would consider walked away unscathed. Michaela Watkins should never be allowed to do an impression ever again. There wasn't one other person on the cast of millions who could pull of a Barbara Walters? And it's not like it's even a hard impression to learn. You don't necessarily have to have the voice down, you just have to nail the inflection. She didn't even come close. Aside from Casey Wilson's brief appearance in the Gilly sketch, were any of the other new people used? I'm also still trying to get used to Seth Meyers by himself on the Update desk. He's not bad, but he's gotta stop trying to rush through it. The show ended three minutes early (when was the last time that happened), he had some time to waste. At least the NBC censors lately have decided to be less hesitant on some things. I think I've said this before but there was a time on the show when saying the word penis 42 times in a sketch was considered racy (Conan O'Brien = genius). Now you can sing about jizz and show Will Forte's ass? But "Dick in a Box" (I still think it was cock) gets bleeped? Was a censor replaced within the last year? Also, Fleet Foxes should never be allowed on television again. Those songs were torturous and about 35 years too late. It would've felt right at home on the 70s version of the show and I can appreciate Michaels for bringing them on, but they seemed next to comatose. It's a live show guys. I know your songs don't really allow you to jump around everywhere, but how about a smile, or blinking? If Steve Martin can't at least deliver a decent show (which for me would be when the first hour works while everything after Update amounts to filler) then the rest of this season is probably doomed.

Which songs did they play? I saw them live twice last year and they're great. They actually have two uptempo-ish songs (Ragged Wood and Drops In The River).

Was that MacGruber bit with Richard Dean Anderson part of the show or an actual commercial?

Re: Saturday Night Live 2008/2009 season
One of the year's best. I'm glad they went after Peterson again despite what he said. Yes it's a somewhat mean-spirited impersonation but that hasn't stopped the show before. That and it's funny. For the first time in awhile the biggest laughs came from Weekend Update thanks to Armisen.
And the MacGruber commercials during the actual commercials with the shameless plugs for Pepsi were great. I get the feeling they're going to end up much better than anything we might see during the Super Bowl tomorrow.

That intervention sketch was embarrassing.
And maybe it's just me, but (if anyone's watching) has anyone been able to understand a damn word during TV on the Radio's performances? I can't tell if it's their microphones, my TV, or if it's just me.

Re: Saturday Night Live 2008/2009 season
Wow. They added an organ during the closing credits music. Smart decision.
As for the episode itself it wasn't very good. The Today Show sketch was an improvement over the previous one. I also liked the sketch with the guys singing around what turned out to be a casket, and the Bad Guys, Good Conversation sketch, but it was pretty much a forgettable show all around.
Baldwin should be good next week though.

Agreed. Highly forgettable episode, another example of a game host (Bradley Cooper was pretty good) in a not that funny show.

I had a Libs moment last night. I was like "that black guy from TV on the Radio looks familar." It's the groom from Rachel Getting Married.

Re: Saturday Night Live 2008/2009 season
Well that was awful. Most of the sketches that made it on-air tonight were some of the most poorly written sketches that I can remember ever seeing on the show. The opening sketch was a dud which is a shame because Aykroyd was in it, and the Cougar Den sketch that followed not too shortly after was horrible. Poehler was what made the sketch somewhat funny when it was first on, but now that she's gone there's hardly a point to it. And do they really need to bring Cameron Diaz back every single time they do it? Her character isn't that funny.
There were a couple of positives tonight. There was one decent sketch that involved a conference call of some sort with Hader, Baldwin and Forte. The Vincent Price sketch and the Wii sketches were good too. All three though were made even better when you realized how many 12 year old girls were still watching waiting for the last Jonas Brothers song and managed to learn about gloryhole's (conference call), fisting (Vincent Price) and father and son male masturbation techniques (Wii).
All in all though the show was kind of horrible tonight. Not one sketch was funny until around 12:30.

Wow. This week's show was funny all the way through!
The Rock is a consummate entertainer, and performed every one of his skits perfectly. And the writing was spot on throughout. This was a rare treat (except for whoever that faux hippie dude they had on as "musical" guest)...

Zac Efron is hosting SNL right now. I actually like him more than a lot of people seem to.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs just sang Maps. Did I suddenly time warp to 2003? lol! It was fun seeing Zac Efron being slapped around and verbally abused by Fred Armisen... then almost getting foot-sucked by Jason Sudeikis.

SNL was actually pretty good last night. Zac Efron seemed comfortable and was pretty funny. The Kathy Lee sketch and the High School Musical 4 sketch are my favorites.

I adore Justin Timberlake. That is all.
The "Dick in a Box" sequel was amazing.
And then I laughed and laughed during the Ellis Island sketch with the Britney reference ("They'll say they were virgins in public, but he actually hit that")
