Post The Incredibles 2 predictions
I think that of all Pixar films released thus far (except Toy Story of course), The Incredibles is the one that could justify a sequel more than any other considering it's basically a superhero flick and it wouldn't be too hard to make a sequel to it.

I also think that The Incredibles is probably one of the most-liked Pixar films to date. Maybe not as beloved as WALL-E or Ratatouille, but certainly above some others. Moreover, this one actually has the appeal to most audiences, nut just the families, but also young males to an extent.

So, if Pixar one day decided to make a sequel to it, how do you think would it perform? (assuming it's the usual Pixar high-quality)

I'd say a big increase is absolutely certain. I think with a summer release date, it'd open to $90+ million and make $360-380 million in total.

I'd love to see a sequel. It would do very well if made. Lecter's prediction seems good.

I think it will have a 100M+ OW for sure. With similar legs as TI(or slightly less) it will beat FN for sure.

Your prediction seems attainable. I really wish they would make a sequel. It's one of my favourite movies, and like you said it wouldn't be difficult at all to come up with a decent premise for a sequel.

I dont think you can really see much increase. What I have said about The Incredibles applies to this too where human CGI characters are nowhere near as cuddly to draw kids in as much

Yeah, I don't know if it's as canonical as Toy Story, which will be huge, but it'd be big. Say...88/308 big if released in the summer.

Yeah its well liked but that wont warrant a big jump for the sequel. Most likely $80m+ OW and $300-$310m total (with a summer release)

It would definitely be good for 300...but if WALL-E can't get into the mid 300's, I think we'll have to realize there's only a certain audience that intelligent animated films are able to reach and that Pixar's never going to have a Shrek 2 sized hit.

Eh, I think The Incredibles was very well-liked and would see a big increase. Its legs weren't as good as most other Pixar fims, but think about this:

1. It faced The Polar Express in its second weekend and that went on to gross $170+ million.

2. In its third weekend it faced National Treasure and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, both aiming at family audiences and both have grossed nearly $260 million together.

3. In its fourth weekend it had Christmas with the Kranks, another $20+ million family-oriented opener.

In other words, during the first four weeks of its run it faced four $20+ million family-oriented openers that ended up grossing $500 million together. That in mind, it actually did VERY well.

Yeah, it had competition up the ass. Its second weekend drop was the best non-holiday hold it had until after sometime after Christmas.

It sold like 14m DVDs, I think. It'd be good for at least $350m+. I want this movie so bad.

The ending of The Incredibles just screams "SEQUEL!" If one was made, it would be huge.

It'd do well, but it has the weakest legs for a Pixar release -- I dunno just how well it'd do. It wouldn't pull a Shrek 2, that's for sure.

90 / 300

Honestly, Cars 2 could do better...it was really a hit with kids.

I think The Incredibles was a lot better received than its weaker multiplier suggests. Like, Lecter said, it was pretty much slammed up the ass with competition. Its 2nd weekend hold was phenomenal.

I guess so. I know it'd be a Pixar sequel I'd anticipate above the rest (except for maybe Toy Story 3), since it's so ripe for one. But I think that, while Incredibles did far better with teens/adults, Cars was a bigger hit with kids, which may just be a more powerful factor for sequel potential.

Big, but I think Finding Nemo 2 would be bigger. Nemo is crazy, I still see it playing at every Wal-Mart and Future Shop on the plasmas, it's THE kid's movie of this decade so far and for the post Toy Story and Lion King generation, along with Shrek.

Honestly I could see Nemo 2 doing Shrek 2 numbers, if it was released anytime soon.

Nemo 2 would be incredibly unnecessary, though.

I'm sure they could figure out something, like say

- An oil spill screws up the reef, so Marlin, Dory, Nemo go off to find the fishbowl fish wherever they started living after escaping out the window.

- Marlin learns that his father or mother who abandoned him at birth is still around, so he, Dory, and Nemo go looking for him/her.

Or make Nemo now a teenager/adult fish, and create a storyline that way. You could also throw in a love interest for Marlin or Nemo (if he's older), and make something from there.

Either way though, I think it's moot because I don't believe Pixar will make a Nemo sequel, you're right in the sense that it would seem like a money move, something they're probably above. And I think their work from now on will be more advanced than the simply family film stage of something like Nemo.

Nemo 2 won't happen, Pixar doesn't do uneeded sequels, hel Toy Story 2 was suppose to be a direct to video sequel until Disney demanded a theatrical release.

The only Pixar film I see getting a sequel is The Incredibles because of its style.

I have a feeling it was a sort of compromise with Disney...in order to keep being able to make such risky movies (UP and The Bear and the Bow make WALL-E seem typical by comparison), they had to provide Disney with some guaranteed profit makers. Toy Story 3 will roll in the big dough and Cars will induce merchandising mania. So, once Pixar got a script they legitimately liked for Cars 2, they agreed to it.
