Wow now that looks good and kudos to the makeup department, because I barely recognized Paul Dano and Patricia Arquette in there. Benicio being involved is just icing on the cake too. |

I was a bit reserved initially. Within the confines of the prison, it's good but not 'top television' good. I was enjoying it but thought early one that it might be seven-and-a-half hours wasted. But it grows on you. Whether it's because you invested so much time in it or because it genuinely is good, I am not sure. But the final three episodes, especially the penultimate background episode, and the feature-length final episode, are gripping. That is such an overused word but I cannot think of another to use here. They are all horrible people, but the show urges you to side with them for five hours, then in the sixth hour it tells you they are pieces of shit. It's a great mind-fuck. Regardless, I still wanted Sweat to get away at the end, and he was caught for what? A momentary blip. If he just crossed that trail a minute earlier or a minute later he'd have been away. I am pissed at him for actually not checking the road before crossing. He was so articulate before when Hacksaw was there! Patricia Arquette's performance was superb. And Ben Stiller did a fine job. |
