Awesome, great news. Not sure what the story will be, but anything with the same vibe and the same/ equally good cast would be nice.

Disney buying Fox means it now owns majority share of Hulu which was previously co owned by ABC, FOX and NBC. Along with its content library I would think Disney makes an aggressive run at Netflix

There's talk of reviving The Office on NBC in the 2018-2019 season. Like Will & Grace, this lends itself to a reboot (there will be a mix of new and old characters), but I'm feeling a bit mixed towards so many revivals. Obviously there would be no Carell or Krasinski, and probably no Rainn or Jenna. Some of the secondary characters would be fun to see again, but there must be better new series to explore.

Maybe Yvette Nicole Brown can find a better vehicle for her talents now.

The Modern Family creators are saying they plan on the show ending while still leaving fans wanting more. So... Season 6?

So many show ideas I liked, too little time to watch any of them.

Murphy Brown has been revived for the 2018-19 season (this might as well double as a Renewal/Cancellation/Revival thread, since we have almost as many revivals now as regular shows).

Murphy Brown being revived is kinda out of nowhere but makes more sense than some of the other revivals.

Getting crazy with all the revivals though. How many do we now have?

Full House
Will & Grace
X Files
Hawaii Five-O
MacGyver
Roseanne
Prison Break
Gilmore Girls

And soon...
Magnum PI
Dynasty
Roswell

It's Crazy. I'm sure ive missed some too.

What started the trend? Dallas came back and kind of did the revival idea well by adding in new characters and mixing in old favorites. And it gave Patrick Duffy some much needed work. But before that, were there any legit revivals?

Hawaii Five-O and MacGyver are legit reboots though, right? I don't watch but they don't feature any references to the original series?

I think 90210 was a bit of a reboot/revival as I believe it did feature guest appearances of the original cast.

I think Hawaii Five-O is a legit reboot though.

Doctor Who?

I feel like Arrested Development Season 4 started the snowball with the recent revivals. The real reason for them though is crap network ratings. The brand name of a revival is a needed lifeboat

Quote:
In a very competitive situation, Netflix has landed The Politician, a new hourlong comedy series from longtime collaborators Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan and Ryan Murphy, I have learned. The project, starring Tony winner Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hanson), with Oscar winners Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow in negotiations to co-star, has received a two-season straight-to-series order, I hear.

The deal, believed to be the biggest TV package sale of the year, came after a week-long bidding war among top streaming players, including Amazon and Hulu, sources said. It gives prolific creator/producer Murphy two series on Netflix, along with the upcoming Ratched.

As he does on all of his shows, Murphy will direct the pilot for The Politician, described as a one-hour comedy with social commentary. If Streisand and Paltrow’s deals close, the two will serve as producers on the series alongside Platt, and Streisand also likely will direct some of the episodes, insiders with knowledge of the project told Deadline.

Details about the plot and characters in The Politician are being kept under wraps but, according to a source close to the show, it revolves around the politician aspirations of Platt’s Payton, a wealthy Santa Barbarian, and every season will revolve around a different political race that character is involved in.

I hear that Platt will have musical numbers in several episodes of the show. That, along with the potential involvement of Paltrow and Streisand, helped drive interest in the project, sparking a heated bidding and leading to the big Netflix deal.

I'm here for a Babs and Paltrow TV comeback

Looks like Netflix bought Ryan Murphy. 5 years, 300 million contract https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live- ... al-1084640

So Netflix bought out Ryan Murphy before Disney would own him through Fox. In a few years there will be an outright war between Netflix and Disney.
